Carefree Truth
Issue #214, January 11, 2013
Carefree, in partnership with Scottsdale Healthcare and Rural/Metro-Southwest Ambulance, is purchasing two new heart monitors that incorporate the ability to directly transmit data from the first responders in the field to the cardiologist at a hospital. Although the Scottsdale Heathcare system is paying 1/3 of the cost, patients may choose to use any hospital in the Valley, rendering patient care seamless.
One of the new monitors will be placed in the Carefree fire truck, the other in the Carefree based ambulance. The existing monitor, which was donated to the town by a citizen in 2007, will be moved from the fire truck to the station treatment room in order to be available if the truck is out on a call.
The cost of the 2 monitors is $40,569.11. Carefree's share is 1/3, which comes to $13,523.04. Rural/Metro will be responsible for the maintenance of the monitors. Councilman Glenn Miller pointed out that Carefree was due to upgrade the monitor in two years, so this is a welcome opportunity to do so ahead of schedule and with reduced cost. A single monitor at today's cost is around $25,000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mb4b4cvQsco
