At the February 5th Council meeting, Mayor David Schwan read the following letter, received from long time Town Clerk, Betsy Wise, announcing her retirement. 

 

 

 

January 29, 2013

 

Dear Mayor, Council and Staff,

 

It is with mixed emotions that I present this letter of notice that I plan to retire on June 15, 2013 and my last day will be Friday, June 14th.

 

I have enjoyed my 16+ years as the Carefree Town Clerk/Treasurer and will miss everyone very much.  We have shared a lot of groundbreaking history from being the first municipality in the state to have mail ballot elections, purchase of the Water Company, construction of the Town Center and refurbishing it to the beautiful and impressive botanical gardens we see today, the formation of the Fire Protection Agreement for the community, building our very own fire house and buying the fire engine, moving Town Hall to the original Carefree Realty sales office and recently the addition of open space property to be held in perpetuity for future generations to enjoy.

 

It has been an honor to serve with such caring individuals who have brought Carefree to the point of pride it is today.  I will miss my fellow staff member "family" but hope to continue our Friday lunches and keep up with the news.

 

As I start my next grand adventure, retirement, you will all stay in my heart and memory as one of the best parts of my life.  Rest assured I will be available after that date to help in any way needed.

Betsy received a standing ovation.  She wears many hats, and wears them well.  An oft repeated statement at Carefree Town Hall is, "Ask Betsy; she'll know."  I call her "The Font of All Knowledge".  She will be sorely missed.
