Holly Bergman's grandchildren Elle and Evan Pagliaro, aged  5 & 4, attended the April Council meeting.  Mayor David Schwan asked them to lead in the Pledge of Allegiance, which begins each meeting.  The girls led what the Mayor described as the most "vigorous" Pledge he'd ever heard.  They got a standing ovation.

Following that, during Call to the Public, Mrs. Bergman spoke about the Beatles Block Party event held at the Wild Holly Gallery on February 23.  She began by thanking the Council members for their "tenacity, and support of the business community". 

 

 

The event, which was covered by 3 TV stations, began at 2 PM, and the last of the 343 attendees walked through the door at 9:20 PM.  It featured artist Andy Baird who painted 4 large originals, one each of John, Paul, George, and Ringo, priced at $10,000 a piece.  All 4 sold and are going to a home in Carefree. 

 

 

The affair was catered by the English Rose Tea Room.  Carefree based vendors also supplied the servers and the security guard.  Bags and Rags, the clothing and accessories store by the Wild Holly Gallery, had their best sales day yet.  Giordano's Trattoria Romana, the Northern Italian restaurant that is a secondary gallery for 5 of the Gallery's artists, also had one of their best evenings ever.  Carefree Station was standing room only.  Many who attended the party said they had not previously known about downtown Carefree. 

 

 

Aspiring singer/songwriter Lauren Gasic, who works at Studio C Salon, sang a soulful rendition of John Lennon's "Imagine" with the live band.  Andy Baird was so impressed with Lauren that he asked her to model for one of his paintings, and has given her permission to use the image on her album cover.

 

 

The next Icon event/party featuring Andy Baird will be held at the Wild Holly Gallery in the fall.
