Last month, long time Carefree Town Clerk and Town Treasurer Betsy Wise formally announced her impending retirement.  Carefree posted notices in several publications asking for applications, and received fourteen resumes.  The resumes were reviewed by Mayor David Schwan, Town Administrator Gary Neiss, and Betsy Wise.  They interviewed five applicants.

 

 

 

Two applicants were interviewed by the entire Council, and discussed in an executive session before the regular meeting began.  Both applicants were invited to attend the regular meeting, and were in the audience.  Mayor Schwan stated that both were excellent, making it a difficult decision.

 

 

 

Ballots were handed out to all the Council members bearing the names of the candidates for a public vote, which is how the Planning and Zoning Commission is appointed as well.  Ms. Wise collected the filled out forms and read the results.  Councilmen Marty Saltzman, Glenn Miller, Arthur Gimson, John Crane, and Mayor David Schwan voted for Kandace French, who won by a margin of 5-2,   She begins work on May 20th.  The Mayor thanked both applicants and congratulated Ms. French.
