The official judging took place on February 6th at Carefree Town Hall.  This year, we had 27 photographers submit a total of 70 photos.  We got a lot of really gorgeous ones, so it wasn't an easy job for our 3 professional photographer judges. Our thanks to Alan Lowy, Marie Peck, and Jerry Sieve for once again volunteering their time and expertise.  Here are the judges' picks. 

 

 

1st place: Linda Benedetto

2nd place: Taline Schmidt

3rd place: Tom Baker

Honorable Mentions: Betsy Anderson, Paige Brinkley, Teri Ferro, Nicole Neri, Sandra Neri, D.J. Stapley, Linda Stewart, James Thomas, Hazel Vaughn, and Sara Windom.

 

 

Taking a page from the Desert Foothills Land Trust's book, we too decided to have the judges choose 13 for the public voting since the public voting favorite will go on the cover and we still need photos for 12 months.

 

 

 

 

The 13 photos will go on display for public voting at the Magic Bird Fine Chocolate and Fine Arts Festival in the Carefree Desert Gardens from February 13th-16th, at the Desert Foothills Library from February 17th-23rd, and at the Cave Creek Museum from February 24th-March 2nd.

Ballots will be available at each location.  Beginning February 13th, the photos will also be available for voting on the Town of Carefree website www.carefree.org.  Individuals may only vote once and for only one photo.  The awards ceremony will take place in the Carefree Gardens Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion on Saturday, March 22nd, at 11:00 AM. 

 

 

 

 

My co-chair Joe and I always reserve for ourselves the fun job of picking a few extras for the calendar too.  This year, in addition to the judges' picks, Mike Burns, Jeanne Cassanova, and Nathaniel Kastelic will have photos appearing in the 2015 calendar.  Congratulations to the photographers whose photos will be going out for public voting, and to those who will be appearing with them in the 2015 calendar.  We hope to see entries again next year from all those who entered this year, as well as entries from new contestants.  Thanks for entering and keep 'em coming!

 

 

 

 

Thanks too, to our media sponsor the CITYSunTimes, which published a front page article in their January edition, and to Sonja Haller, reporter for the Arizona Republic, who published an interview in January with Nicole Neri, the teenager who has had photos chosen by the judges all 3 years of the contest.  The contest was also publicized much more this year by the Town of Carefree.  I'm sure all the extra publicity elicited the great response we got.  Your help with increasing awareness of this photo contest is much appreciated!
