Herbert was taking photos of the crested saguaro in bloom at the Carefree Desert Garden on Memorial Day. While we were there a young local couple brought their 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter to the playground, which is near the crested saguaro. They told their children to wait before passing in front of us until after Herbert finished his photo, which led me to believe that they were very nice people.
I walked over to the playground and asked if they would like my husband to take some pictures of their kids playing. The parents agreed that would be fun, so Herbert came over with his camera.
The little boy loved it and was hamming it up, but their mom said her daughter is camera shy, and that it is a cause for celebration if anyone can even get her to smile. She must have picked up on the fact that Herbert was having fun taking their pictures, because not only did she end up smiling but she actually played to the camera. She did a somersault for us. He put the camera on a "burst mode" of 13 frames per second a few times, so you can see both kids sliding down the sliding board in what looks like slow motion, and the little girl doing her somersault in that mode.
These kids are adorable. Herbert turned his best photos into
a video for the family. They loved it, and gave us permission to share it in a Carefree Truth issue. Enjoy!
