Carefree Truth

Mayor David Schwan said, "Glenn is kind of a legend in Carefree.  He does everything.  I have created this special check for Glenn Miller for priceless service to the Town of Carefree."  Upon being presented with a plaque bearing the check, Councilman Miller explained, "For years I've been asking Jimmy (Town accountant Jim Keen), Jimmy give me a payroll check, just put a bunch of zeros, just for a joke, and I'll hang it up on my wall in the office."  (Serving on the Council is a volunteer position with no pay.)  "This is kind of what it's all about.  This is special.  Trust me, this is special."

 

 

 

Then the Mayor sprang a second surprise on Mr. Miller.  "I'd also like to give you the Mayor's Award", and he read the citation.  "Mayor's Award-Glenn Miller.  For his many contributions to the Town of Carefree and the entire Foothills community, including contribution to the construction of Carefree Fire House #1, volunteer service on the Carefree Town Council and as Vice Mayor, coordinated and supervised a multitude of capital improvements in Town Center, liaison with the Water Company, Court, Public Works, and Festival.  January 6, 2015."  "Congratulations, Glenn."

 

 

 

Mr. Miller admitted with a grin, "I'm a little embarrassed!"  Councilman Mike Farrar laughed, "I hope you mount that on the hood of your car."  Mayor Schwan added, "Thank you.  Well done."  Mr. Miller received a standing ovation.
