The bottom line of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2015/16 budget was adopted during the May 5th Council meeting.  The final step in the process to make the FY 2015/16 budget official took place at a special meeting held before the regular June 2nd Council meeting. 

 

 

 

Gary Neiss explained that there have been numerous public budget workshops and meetings, beginning in March.  The budget has been extensively vetted in the public light for the past 4 months.  "So, this is where the Budget Express is about to take it's last stop."  The Auditor General gives each community a schedule form, which is a different format than the detailed line item budget reviewed over the past 4 months.  The funds are placed within that form and advertised.  The legally required advertising had been completed, and the Resolution before the Council was the final approval of the budget.

 

 

 

Mr. Neiss explained that many other communities have a larger tax base, a primary and secondary property tax, or community/improvement/utilities districts, and other taxation districts with the Councils as acting boards.  It is simple and straightforward in Carefree, as the Town has no local property tax and none of the other districts. 

 

 

 

Mayor Les Peterson asked if anyone from the Council or the public had any questions.  Audience member Jerry Wetta asked if any changes had been made since the last figures were seen.  Town Accountant Jim Keen replied that there were none.

 

 

 

The budget was unanimously approved.  The bottom line of $7,117,680 may not be exceeded, but money may be moved around between departments within the budget.  The 2014/15 budget bottom line was $8, 290,558, and included funds for major street maintenance projects.  This year's budget includes funds for economic development projects.  The 2015/16 budget becomes effective on July 1st.
