Issue #473, March 28, 2016
Planning Director Stacey Bridge-Denzak reported that in 2015, based on the recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Council approved a moratorium on the requirement to buy permits for Real Estate Open House signs. In order to cover a time frame which included both the summer and the high season, the moratorium which began in June was set to expire on April 1st, 2016.
The requirement for permitting Open House signs came about due to complaints from the community. To date, no complaints have been received during the 10 month moratorium. The first step needed in order to abolish the permit requirement is a 90 day extension of the moratorium, which will give time for public comment, and for a second reading of the text amendment. The second step is to pass a text amendment striking Section 11-3-3, Subsections B & C. All other zoning requirements for Open House signs including number of signs, size, and placement will remain the same.
Vice Mayor John Crane said he was skeptical of the moratorium when it first went into effect, concerned that there would be a lot of push-back. He was very pleased that there had been none. Mayor Les Peterson asked Ms. Bridge-Denzak to thank the Real Estate agents when she spoke with them. The extension was unanimously approved.
