During Call to the Public, Maricopa County Sheriff's Department (MCSO) Lt. Baranyos informed the Council that  MCSO will again be holding a 4 day Academy for citizens of Maricopa County.  The Command Staff will teach the courses. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with Sheriff's Office employees and to meet Sheriff Joe Arpaio.  Through the program, MCSO hopes to foster a greater partnership with the community they serve, and to provide a better understanding of law enforcement's role within Maricopa County. 

 

 

 

This is an interactive way to see what MCSO does on a daily basis.  Highlights include seeing the helicopter and the S.W.A.T. Team, and going out to the firing range.  Only 26 seats are available.  The academy takes place every other Saturday beginning on April 9th, and continuing April 23, May 7th, and May 21st.  (I had planned to put this issue out on Friday, April 8th, but it was preempted by the Tribute to David Schwan.) 

 

 

 

Councilman Glenn Miller said he had taken the course and that it had been fun and instructive.  A former fire fighter, he got to learn the police angle.  Mayor Les Peterson said MCSO had staged a mini one at the Boulders.  They brought in the helicopter, and various topics were discussed.  They did an outstanding job and it was very informative.
