(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Lyn,

With the latest suspicious activities, I’ve found myself getting nervous. To quell my nerves, I decided to test my ADT panic button - something I’ve never used and wanted to make sure it worked. Well I just ran the test this afternoon. ADT called me immediately - I explained what I did and when asked, I couldn’t recall the code. I thought everything was OK and about 5 minutes later, my front door bell rang and the person pounded at the door. It was a MCSO officer. He wanted to come inside to confirm everything was OK. Then here’s what he told me to tell you to share with the neighbors (I told him how you keep us posted on these things).

There have been a lot of robberies in this area. MCSO is looking for a burgundy sedan as described in your email the other day. They are also looking for a white ‘box’ like truck (i.e. a commercial truck without any name). The robbers will come to the door with some story about looking for someone - do you know them, looking for directions, etc. It’s all trying to get into the home. If no one answers the door, they will walk around the back and break in. If we suspect anything, we should call 911 immediately. If we can, try to remember what we see including license plate; but he emphasized do NOT leave your home and do NOT try to follow them.

He was very serious about this and suggested we take it seriously.

Please share with everyone in your network - in and outside Sentinel Rock.  We just don’t automatically think that way. I think communicating with everyone what the officer asked me to ask you to do will help.

Thanks,

Pat

(Lyn's note: This is timely from Pat.  Mayor Schwan said he has heard over and over from residents that they have seen something suspicious but didn't call MCSO because they didn't know the phone number or didn't have it handy.  He suggests that everyone dial 911 rather than the local number because by the time MCSO responds to the non emergency calls the suspicious characters have already left the area.)

When I woke up this morning I decided not be so afraid. I was impressed with ADT’s and MCSO’s response, knowing this was being discussed by our mayor, and you broadcasting this throughout the community, I realize that while I live alone, I’m not alone - made me feel better.

Pat

(Lyn's note: Pat and I have been communicating, so she has already seen my response above, which triggered her response to it.)

Phoenix Fire Department once again did what they do best last night ...

None of the people were home during the fire but that did not stop these heroes from searching for all the family's pets. A few were in really bad shape and the fire fighters were able to save them because the had the FIDO BAGS (animal specific rescue equipment donated by The Fetch Foundation) on board their trucks.

Watch the video and feel comforted for this family that the FIDO BAG's were available.

http://www.azfamily.com/news/Firefighters-use-special-equipment-to-save-pets-from-burning-home-238813371.html

The FIDO BAGS should be on every truck ... unfortunately they are not.

YOU CAN HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN WITH ONLY a $100 donation. An entire FIDO BAG will be placed.

Be a community HERO!

(Lyn's  note: A worthy goal of the Fetch Foundation is to have a Fido Bag on every fire truck in America.  The Carefree fire truck does have a Fido Bag on board.  For a look at all our fire station does, including a look at the Fido Bag, click on the YouTube Herbert did for them last June.  We have a state of the art station staffed by a really great group of guys.  They do a considerable amount of community service and outreach too, which is explained in the video.

Lyn and Herbie. Thanks for all you do for Carefree!

Michael J. Krahe

We saw the angel. Very cool. We kept saying I bet it really does look cool at night. Thanks for the pics. It does!

Jill Anderson

That WAS neat.  Thank you!

Ellie Millianti

Awesome...love the fountain shots!

Fabulous - loved the fountain changing colors.  And...that last screen shot with "Eye on You" with the wolf's eye - perfect!!!!

Shirley Johnston

(Lyn's note: The fountain was lit by our local LED company, Let There Be Light.  They do a lot of really neat stuff, donated the bulbs for the Garden, and are nice, nice people.  I love Bryan Gold and his dad Steve.  We are replacing our light bulbs at home with their LED bulbs as needed.  Bryan also lit the steel sculptures going up our driveway.)

Thanks for sharing, that's beautiful!

Tracy O'Shaughnessy

Oh my goodness ... they are sooo beautiful!  Thank you!!!  You did a GREAT job, Lyn, shining light on her face.  :). As I drove by at night I was thinking that we needed to put a string of lights around her face because you don't get the full effect unless you're closer.  Thank you, Herbie and Lyn. I'm glad more people got to see her this year.  Great job, you two!  Our Gardens/Town look beautiful.  Glenn and I have some other decoration ideas for the future -- we'll see where that goes.

Melissa Price

(Lyn's note: I am the "official off camera lighting crew".  I was shining a small flashlight on the angel's face.  Melissa donated the angel to the Town.  For those of you who may not have clicked in the video in Carefree Truth and are inspired to see in now, it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-HI5GeS_Gw and it's only 1 minute and 40 seconds, so is quick to watch.)

Very nice, thanks for sharing.

Lynn Irasable

Nice work!

Marie Peck

It is neat!!  Thank you.

Very nicely done montage by Herbie.  Has a distinctly professional look about it.  Thanks!

Glenn,

Nancy and I were not here for most of the holidays but very

much enjoyed Lyn's coverage of your spectacular work in the town's

gardens. As always thanks for all you do!

Dear Party Animals,

We look forward to seeing you at the Foothills Animal Rescue Rock & Roll Rescue at Desert Mountain on January 18, 2014.  We are trying to coordinate photos of our attendee's pets for the event.  Please email me a picture of your critter(s), preferably with you in the photo,  but this is not essential if you are camera shy.   Your dog/cat/iguana does not have to be a rescue to send a picture, we love seeing all animals and their human friends.  Please include your name, the pet(s) name, and if a rescue animal - the date of rescue and a brief story.

Thanks for your support.
