Lyn,

I want to thank you for acting on a vision and taking the pumpkin idea to the Town Council last year.

How exciting!!!!

I sent an email to Gina yesterday thanking her. She sent me this note wondering if you would post.  See below.

LeAnda

Gina,

Howdy, I can't believe the 1st Annual Enchanted Pumpkin weekend is over and the rain Gods  waited (!!!!!) until we got home. Just 2 more weekends to go.

So much fun, hard work, and SOOOO much satisfaction from attendees. It was worth all the effort! Memorable? Yes!!!

I personally feel so satisfied.

All the individuals, families, couples, and grandparents who came were so pleased to be able to take in the entire event. The smiles of those young and old were contagious as they saw each Hubbard on display and took in the humor Ray created in their expressions and scenes. In some cases I saw families mimicking what they saw, and the cameras flashing like crazy.

The experience was even more special for those who watched and participated in the hands-on carving with Ray Villafane. How amazing it was that he shared his techniques and thoughts, and gave this once-in-a-lifetime experience to those of all ages!

I hope that ALL OF CAREFREE realizes how special this weekend and experience is. The door is open, its up to everyone in our town to step-up, embrace and continue to build an event that year after year draws families to come and create memories.

You should be so proud of how this weekend came together.  You put so much time and effort and thanks to you, it was a huge success!

Thank you so much,

LeAnda Merrihew

THANK YOU! I sent this to the Council- hope you don’t mind J

I really appreciate your dedication and help with this project- we will sit back and admire out work years from now when kids, families and residents are still enjoying this event that you help create!

Can you send this to Lyn Hitchon’ so she can post on the Carefree Truth email- if you are ok with it.

Gina

(Lyn's note: LeAnda and Tom had lived in places that held pumpkin festivals, and she came to me with the idea that Carefree should do one. She did a lot of research that she had in hand to show Gina Kaegi, the Carefree Marketing Director, at their first meeting.  Gina loved it and pitched it to the Town.  I was just the middleman who got them together after hearing LeAnda's ideas.  LeAnda and Gina have done a great job on this!  The Festival is amazing.  The Enchanted Pumpkin Garden is open daily from October 16th-31st, so if you haven't been there to see it, do go.  It's truly amazing! Check out the photo collage sent to Carefree Truth by Phil Corso, below.)

Lyn,

I’d like to propose the following:

6 or more Bravo’s

At least a half dozen kudos

A Bakers Dozen of Atta-boys and Atta-Girls

A hat full of “Good Job” comments

A Stranding Ovation

And one very grateful Thank You to everyone who suggested, discussed, researched, designed, proposed, debated, voted to purchase, delivered and set up the most brilliant addition to the Carefree Desert Gardens conceived and implemented yet. If you have not yet sat down and melted into the comfort of these chairs and couches, you are in for a treat. Just wait until the fireplaces are roaring...almost heaven!!!

(Lyn's note: The chairs were provided to the Carefree Gardens by Carefree Outdoor Living, located in the Basha's Center on Tom Darlington Dr.  Carefree Outdoor Living provided the all furniture at their cost. Yet another great example of our local businesses giving back to the community!)

Thanks for including the A-Team open house flyer!

Best,

Katie Stearns

(Lyn's note: The A-Team is a Carefree based home health care operation.  See their ad in Carefree Truth.  I am told they are wonderful.)

GREAT JOB! Thanks for contributing your time and effort to the ALS Walk!

David Schwan

It's fabulous!  David is watching the video again with a big smile on his face!  😄😄😄😄😄😄

Love,

Binka Schwan

A refreshing (?) shower for a good cause!  Thank you!

Anita and Bernie

Hi Lyn,

Just a quick note to let you know that Mary and I regret that we got our location signals crossed and that we missed seeing you take the Ice Bucket Challenge to support David. We were waiting at the splash pad as listed in the initial announcement, and didn’t realize it until after the Challenge was over that it was actually taking place at the reflecting pool by the Sun Dial to make it more accessible for David. We enjoyed seeing the video of this event that Herbie took, however, and when I hugged you I was amazed at just how cold and damp your clothes (and you) were. Thanks to you and Herbie for all you do for all of us.

Mayor Les Peterson

Great Video, Lyn.  Sorry I arrived a little late to see the actual bucket of ice going over your head ( Les and I were waiting  at the new splash pad) but we did enjoy the smile on David’s face and your wet hug.

Thanks for taking the challenge.

Mary Peterson

Thank you for sending, Lyn.

John Crane

This is a true keepsake. I got a little teary looking at it.

Gina Kaegi

Good job!

Holly Bergman

Nicely done Lyn! Well dumped. I am sorry to have missed the actual moment but you and Binka make a great pair for ALS. Carry on.

Betsy Lynn

Lyn……….. Thank you for doing that for David Schwan, but no matter how good the cause, (and ALS fund raising is very good and needed)  I personally would NEVER purposely have ice water poured over my head.  You and Binka are very courageous to do so……………….  J    MKT

I was impressed!  You did the challenge stoically!  I would've HAD to shriek and crack up!  I left once I saw you giving big wet hugs, lol!

Good girl!  Good job!  I knew to look for Herbie's camera, saw it before I parked, and I got the only open space!  I was to Herbie's right, staying out of camera view.  There were a couple of people in front of me. I gasped and cracked up, and said out loud that you took it like a pro.  I watched the man hand you a bandana, and saw you get your glasses back, and when the hugs started I hightailed it!  I picked up mail, told Mikey you rocked it!  And that I was proud of you.  :)  Again, to you, job well done!  XO

Jakki Brooks

You are quite the stoic!!!!!! It was fun - thanks for including us!!

Mickie Applebaum

You are most welcome.   It’s great of you to have offered yourself up for the challenge! I wish them love and the comfort of friends in their challenge with ALS. And as always, thanks for your efforts toward civility in our town.

Andrea Dickey Genette

(Lyn's note: Andrea kindly donated after seeing the video in Carefree Truth.  I emailed to thank her after Binka let me know, and this was her response.)

If I neglected to congratulate you on the Ice Bucket, then I must reaffirm that it was your finest hour.  You kind of looked like angel, shaking your water off.

Sara Vannucci

Sorry I missed your getting drenched with the ice water bucket.  You did Good.  Thanks.

Joe DeVito

You took it like a "CHAMP"!

Ron Crouse

Hi Lyn,

Pam and I are very honored to have donated and you are a big part of it because I picked it up in your wonderful Carefree Truth email!

Yes, we will be having a Healing of Memories for Vets at the Spirit in the Desert again on Dec 4-6, 2015. I am working on the news release this week and you will definitely get the info. I always count on you to help me get the word out and I have had vets who only found out about it in your Carefree Truth. One guy has become one of my best volunteers!

I will be sending Papa Ron a personal letter to update him on our progress and results with a gentle request to help us again. You have a wonderful friend in this fine man!

Thank you and thank you for all you do for this community. Pam and I are full Carefree residents now and it is exciting to be real residents in this great community.

Mike Wold

(Lyn's note: Papa Ron Crouse donated to David's ALS Team too.)

That was fantastic!!! What a great bunch of friends, and you were fun & funny as usual. You are a true friend Lyn!  A rare find....I am so fortunate to have you as my friend too. Great clip Herbie, & love the music. How/where do I give donation?

Peggy Owen

Nice job---hey, send me (or re-send)  info on ALS fundraiser, will you? Been out straight with Cave Creek Museum newsletters, gallery guide, etc, so have been just deleting lots of emails---some unintentionally! You look good in wet clothes.

Stephanie Bradley

(This is the direct link for making donations to Binka's page on the David's Team "ALS Walk" fundraiser website. There is still time to make a donation. http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/Arizona?px=6972161&pg=personal&fr_id=10960#.VezY7HgXzFI. Let's show our appreciation of former Mayor David Schwan, and let's help find a cure for ALS!)

Congratulations!  Loved the pictures and you’re one “helluva” great gal.

Love Lea

Looks COLD Lyn.

Glad everyone had a good time - especially David and Binka - and that you had fun too. I applaud you! I do NOT like cold water or even being chilly! Brrrrr! Did you have a few nay sayers offer to pour the ice water? Haha! Nice that you did that!

Hugs,

Barb Bankord
