CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 10/24/12
John Edwards and Laura Emry were married on October 15, 2012 in the Carefree Desert Gardens Amphitheater. John is a 2007 graduate of Cactus Shadows High School and now resides in Katy, Texas with his new wife. They had their Rehearsal Dinner at John’s favorite restaurant in the area, Saba’s Mediterranean Cuisine at Cave Creek Road and Hum Road. The guests had a wonderful meal of Sleepy Gyros Salads, Sharwarma Chicken Salads, and fresh made Hummus appetizers. Saba’s proprietor Oscar served red and white wines with the dinner and made everyone feel like family. The guests enjoyed the wonderful food and the menu gave vegetarians good options as well. The restaurant is beautiful at night and accommodated the party of 22 very well.

Hi Lyn and all Carefree citizens:
Arthur Gimson is 100% correct on "I do not know how anyone could not like them." Just drive through the town of Cave Creek and see what visual clutter can do to the environment and to our eyes! Although few business owners in Cave Creek have followed the rustic, eclectic and in keeping with town ordinances producing professionally created products, most of our signs are "willy nilly do what you want!"
Didn't like Carefree's first choice of signs.....so glad they are gone! These new signs fit the character, the environment and your goal of getting folks to your business area while keeping it pleasing to the citizens and neighbors.
True leadership always shines when goals are met while keeping it fair to all involved in a community.

Dear Readers:
I thought you would enjoy seeing the pictures Herbert took of the Parkinson's Disease event in Carefree on Oct. 20th. The first part consisted of a 5k walk/run and a 5k bike ride. My friend Patti rode her bike wearing her special "bike riding" high heels, which you will see in the photos.
The second part of the event was a Beerfest held in the Carefree Gardens amphitheater, catered by Carefree Station, and included a silent auction fundraiser. The event was lovely, well attended, and the weather was perfect!

Lyn,
Below is information about the Bashas’ Community Support Card that helps the Caring Corps. The FCC has grown tremendously in the 4+ years that I have been driving, from one mini-bus to 5 vehicles, three of which are wheelchair accessible. Just think of the cost of the gas and insurance to keep them running! A lot of nearby residents would have their lives seriously impacted without this service.
While the initial card needs to be obtained from the FCC offices, they can be used, and recharged, at any Bashas’ store. It’s a great way to ‘donate’ to a worthy cause without spending any extra money.

Bashas' Community Support Card is a great way to help support the Foothills Caring Corps. When you buy groceries at Bashas', AJ's Fine Foods or Food City stores, Foothills Caring Corps can receive 6% of your purchases. Purchase your $20 Support Card. Here's how it works. Buy a $20 gift card and when used, reload it, then use the card as you would use a debit card. Foothills Caring Corps receives 6% of every dollar you load onto your card. The card can be reloaded as often as you need and can be reloaded from $20 up to $500 at a time. You
simply ask for the reload at the check-out line. Get started by stopping into the Caring Corps' office and purchasing your $20 card.

Regarding the video of the CCUSD School Board candidate forum, I would give a very loud applause and shout-out to the CCUSD Superintendent, Ms. Burdick. I simply asked Ms. Burdick at the conclusion of the forum if there would be a transcript. Ms. Burdick stated that she didn't know about a transcript, but she thought the students were making a video of the proceedings. She took my name and phone number and stated she would follow-up and let me know if the video would eventually be published. Well, I suspected that would be the end of it and I wouldn't hear again from Ms. Burdick. How wrong I was!
At every step of organizing the video, Ms. Burdick kept me informed of the progress as it occurred (there were probably 4 different phone calls from her). Finally, this morning (October 23rd), her office called to get my email address so they could send the link to the CCUSD website and to the forum video. I am very grateful to Ms. Burdick for her follow-up and her tenacity in maintaining a dialog with me as to the progress being made by the students. It's nice to see, now and then, that elected officials can be quite responsive to the public they serve. Thank you Superintendent Burdick for a job well done!
