Desert Foothills Library
A Few Highlights:

When:  3:30 – 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 5
What:  Arizona Filmmakers Speak: Sip Wine and Savor Stories
            “Mr. Conservative: Goldwater on Goldwater”
Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine as you watch this short film, followed by a discussion with Producer C.C. Goldwater. Barry Goldwater was among the most controversial figures in American politics in the 1960s. A hard-line fiscal conservative and outspoken supporter of the war in Vietnam, Goldwater was elected to the U.S. Senate for Arizona in 1952, and he helped galvanize the Republican party, leading the way for a bolder brand of conservative politics However, while Goldwater was regarded as a spokesman of the far right, his political views were far broader than his reputation would suggest -- he frequently supported civil rights and environmental legislation in Congress, he was an outspoken opponent of the influence of Christian activists in politics, and his positions took on a more libertarian stance as the Republican party moved farther to the right in the 1980s. Barry Goldwater's granddaughter C.C. Goldwater produced this documentary, in which home movies, archival interviews, newsreel footage, and conversations with Goldwater's friends, relatives, and colleagues come together to create a portrait of the public and private sides of this complicated man. Limited seating. Register: 480-488-2286.

World War II, a Legacy of Letters: One Soldier's Journey
Monday, November 4 ● 10-11:30am

Clinton Frederick returned to his grandparents' house for a family wedding in 2002. In the attic, just as he'd remembered, were memorabilia from WWII. In a trunk under the rafters, Clinton made a discovery that would change his life forever. Inside were more than hundred letters written by his father, Captain George Frederick. This correspondence chronicled from a most personal standpoint some of the major events that shaped the world. The letters also allowed Clinton Frederick, for the first time in his life, to know what his father was really like. WWII - A Legacy of Letters, is a true story of love and war, and received The American Author's Association's highest rating. In it, Frederick discusses how he artfully wove together his father's letters with historical information about some of the most important military campaigns of the war. Signed books will be available for a special price: $10 cash only.

Hi Lyn, Jan Misseri here.  Just would like to put a little something in the great "Carefree Truth".  I am searching for a position as an administrative assistant/customer service provider as well as a pet sitter. Will match prices you are paying now.  I've worked in all of these areas for the past sixteen years and can provide references.  I live in Carefree so I am readily available to all in the area.  Please feel free to contact me either by email - casbin@aol.com or by phone - 480-488-5182.
