CAREFREE TRUTH
CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 10/7/11
Our quality of life in Carefree depends on the services provided by the Town.
Carefree provides police protection, fire protection, and ambulance service. The Town also maintains the roadways, enforces zoning ordinances to protect your property value, provides a Court to enforce the law and has a Staff that provides services to citizens.
All these services cost money and about 50% of the money used to run the Town comes from local sales tax.
That is why I think economic development is critical to the future of Carefree and to maintaining our quality of life. If Carefree doesn’t have the money, then it cannot provide the services we all enjoy.
What is economic development? One facet of economic development is providing an attractive municipal infrastructure that will bring business activity to Carefree. Providing the right municipal amenities will attract people to our Town Center. Business activity will follow.
Another facet of economic development is meeting with entrepreneurs and business to tell them about Carefree. Members of the Town Council and the Staff have initiated these meetings to bring new activity to our commercial areas.
Economic development also is “shopping local”. Citizens can help develop our business engine by buying in their own home town.
I hope you’ll join me to support economic development in Carefree.
