(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

(Lyn's note: We are sick about it.  Carefree Station was a favorite of ours, and was a busy and successful restaurant.  As you know Hope, since the CITYSunTime was our media sponsor for the event, Robert was one of the 3 panelists on our Carefree candidate forum.  He represented the business interests.  Robert and Linda are good people and we have so much respect for them.)

This is a sad event for everyone in our area.  As we go into the holidays, so many past parties in the Station will be remembered.  It was one of the small number of “dress-up” places close-by where we could go for an anniversary, holiday dinner, or other special time with friends.  We hope that Station 3 in Scottsdale will make up for so much lost time and effort.

That is heartbreaking.  It was very kind of Robert to let us all know what happened, though.

It is discouraging to hear of that sort of behavior by property owners in Carefree, too. It certainly can't help with improving business. Does the town council have any influence?

Trudy Miller

(Lyn's note: It was a contract between private parties.)

Very sad news indeed.  Linda and Robert were always willing to give to help support nonprofits, I wish we could have helped them. Carefree has lost a treasure!  Would you please forward their email address. Tim and I would like to send them a note.  Thanks.

June Reilly

What a pity that they had to suffer all those years with that note existing instead of being torn up.  The closing of this restaurant is a loss to Carefree.

Maryann Savino

Wow. A real loss for Carefree.

That is so sad. Why were they locked out? From what I can tell there was no reason to do that.

Ugh.  This is so sad.  It just makes me ill.  Thanks for keeping everyone up to date,  and being a vehicle for people to get the word out.

Lyn:

I read your recent issue of Carefree Truth #277 and watched the video about the possible expansion of 8 Sundial Circle.  Sounds like a good idea to me, and will undoubtedly save a lot of wasted time by Town staff not having to run over to the current facility whenever there is any activity.  It also makes a lot of sense to have the Council Chambers in the Town Hall.  The potential for the addition being financially neutral (rent versus mortgage) is also appealing.  In the long run, the Town will have an enhanced asset, under the Town’s control, instead of being a tenant and subject to the whims of a Landlord.

It was interesting, but not surprising, that Council Member Mike Farrar showed his ignorance by stating that the Council Chambers were only used once a month.  Sadly, he has already forgotten that Council workshops and budget meetings are held at that location.  Perhaps he wants to forget the place where he made his "you're just a firefighter' slur directed at his colleague and fellow Council Member Glenn Miller.  It was at that same meeting that Council Member Farrar also indicated that the assembled Council members lacked the ability to make decisions.  These were not his actual words, but the message came through loud and clear that without outside consultants, Council Members did not have the necessary expertise.  But this is what  I have come to expect from the elected official who received the least number of votes in the last election, squeaking in over a relative newcomer by only two votes.

Thank you, Lyn, for pointing out that the Planning and Zoning Commission meets there on a regular basis.  The same is true for the Carefree Water Company.  In the last 10 years, I must have attended at least 5 meetings of the Carefree area's HOA's, when the Mayor and Town Staff would bring HOA Presidents and property managers up to date with activities.  I have also attended seminars put on by the Gardens Committee.  The Council Chambers is also the location of the Town's polling station when all-mail balloting is not used.   Obviously, Council Member Farrar is not aware of what’s going on in his own Town.

Study to Guide Future Transportation Plans in Cave Creek and Carefree

Residents and Businesses Encouraged to Provide Input

How should the transportation system in our community evolve to meet the needs of residents and the many visitors who come to our area for special events, unique dining and shopping, high-end resorts, and outdoor recreation?

The Cave Creek/Carefree Transportation Framework Study is under way to address these questions, seeking input from residents, businesses, visitors, and recreational users to identify transportation issues and future needs in the Towns. The study area also includes a portion of Carefree Highway in the City of Scottsdale.

The purpose of the study is to develop a comprehensive master plan (or transportation framework) to guide local and regional transportation planning and development. The study is being conducted by the Maricopa Association of Governments, the regional planning organization for Maricopa County, on behalf of the Towns of Cave Creek and Carefree, and Maricopa County.

Your input is important!

Take Online Surveys

Please take a few minutes to tell us your views about transportation issues and needs in our community. Two online surveys are currently available - one for residents and business owners and another for cyclists.

Surveys are available on the study Web page.

Attend Public Meeting

Learn more about the study, existing and future conditions in the study area, and provide input on transportation issues and needs important to you.
