(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Have a fantastic week!!

Lyn, thanks so much for your support of the Chronicle and getting current news out for our region.  Your support of the things that are important to our towns – good government, animal care, and town events- have made so many homes reachable.  As a Creeker, I especially want to thank you for helping our two towns meld in a way that I have never experienced in my 15 years up in the north country.  I’m sure all of your readers are grateful for your hard work.

Fondly,

SARA

"Dapper".....A Small Dog with a Big Heart.....

A Story Worth Sharing......

On Friday, November 8, a young man came to FAR carrying a small dog he had found on the road side around 78th Street and Hayden Road.  He had to carry the pup because he had what appeared to be a broken front paw.  After calling 911 he was directed to contact a local vet who then referred him to Foothills Animal Rescue.  He was an adorable little brindle colored Dachshund, and we thought for sure he would be micro chipped, but he was not.  We asked the Good Samaritan if he ever saw this dog in his neighborhood before and he said no.

Our primary concern was getting medical attention for the pup since his paw was swollen and he avoided putting pressure on it.  North Scottsdale Animal Hospital x-rayed the little fella, and confirmed he had a fracture just above his wrist at a critical growth plate.  Surgery would be necessary to correct it and they referred us to Vet Med which specializes in these cases.  We named him Dapper and networked him through social media, Maricopa County Animal Control and many of our rescue contacts in the hopes we would hear from his owner. After five days and no owner stepping up to claim him, we assumed ownership which included Foothills assuming the cost of the surgery to repair his leg.

Your Support for Dapper is Appreciated

As you can see from his photo Dapper is a handsome boy. He underwent surgery on November 13 and is resting in his temporary foster home. We do have a potential adopter but any assistance to cover the cost of his surgery is greatly appreciated.  If you would like to help, please contact us 480-488-9890 or via email at support@foothillsanimal.org or by replying to this message.

Thank you for your support as always from the Foothills Rescue Team.....

Belgian Malinois Available Today!

Even if you aren't going to adopt, you NEED to read this story!

please forward

CODY

Cody is a 9 month old Belgian Malinois.  Cody was found by a group of city workers (yes we are being mysterious to protect these big hearted men!)  Abandoned, malnourished and so very happy to share the lunches of these softies!  An entire department of men hid this little boy and took care of him until one of our volunteers could get over there and pick him up.  Cody LOVES people, running, and snuggles.  Cody just basks in being with someone that is nice to him. Thinking about it is heartbreaking (sniff sniff  so lets not dwell on it!)  Cody is VERY SMART...and athletic.  He gets along famously with other dogs, and children. Cody has come from an abusive situation, he is very submissive and would be best in a well balanced home where he can feel safe with his people AND his pack.  Cody has been fostered by a professional trainer that has already started started training and really believes him to be very engaging. Cody is crate trained and current on his shots.

For Adoption information about Cody Please call Marie Peck at The Fetch Foundation 602-617-2656

Please help us with Cody's vet care.  Donate $15 today!

Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center to benefit from holiday light display

A Cave Creek home listed on a metropolitan Christmas lights map will also serve as a donation location to benefit the Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center. The home, which will showcase 60,000 lights synced to music, is located at 6726 E. Dixileta Drive.

Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center seeks van drivers

The Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center is in need of volunteer drivers to pick-up and drop off food and related items for the food bank. Because requests for food assistance intensify during the holiday season, van drivers are needed to help ensure the families that are served by Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center receive the food and personal items they so desperately need.

John Murphy, who can be reached at 480.443.3790, can answer questions regarding specific duties and store locations and hours.

Magic Bird presents the Carefree Fine Art of the Southwest Festival.  November 29th-December 1st, 10 AM-5 PM

Dear Lyn,

I was wondering if this announcement could be included in your Carefree Truth newsletter sometime in the next couple of weeks.

The Upscale Singers 2013 Christmas Concert  “Songs of the Season” will be held at the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church at the corner of Tom Darlington and Carefree Highway on Sunday, December 15th at 5 PM.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and $7 for children 12 years and under.  It would be a wonderful, relaxing way to end the Carefree Christmas Festival week-end.  Tickets can be purchased by calling 480-575-0188 or you can buy them at the door the day of the performance.

We are a 501c3 organization that raises money to give scholarships to local talented youth for vocal lessons. The scholarship money goes directly to the vocal teacher of the recipient’s choice.   We also give grants to local music teachers to help supplement their music libraries in their schools.  Each summer we send handicapped children to the Magic of Music Camp in the Fountain Hills area.  Most of the members of the Upscale Singers are Carefree/Cave Creek and north Scottsdale residents.

Come enjoy the “Songs of the Season” !

 Thanks,

                Mary Kay Thurston
