Mission Statement- Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce is committed to the growth of its members.

Vision Statement - Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce is the premier resource for the vitality and growth of its members.

Did YOU Know

Ever heard of Black Friday?  Silly question.  Have you heard of Small Business Saturday?  Small Business Saturday is a day dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.  American Express founded this day of support in 2010, this day is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Our very own community is made up of small businesses, from restaurants to boutiques, cigar shops to art galleries, there is something for everyone!

"Shop Small" is a reminder about the importance small businesses contribute to the community and how the community can show their support by giving them a boost during the shopping season.  For every $1 spent at local businesses, 45¢ is reinvested locally.

So when you have had your fill of turkey, and are sick of the crowds, enjoy your Saturday visiting a local restaurant for a one of a kinda meal or enjoy the quaintness of one of our local businesses.

~ Now for something I think you will really enjoy ~

Did YOU Know that Thanksgiving helped inspire TV dinners? Part of the reason why Swanson started creating TV dinners in 1953 was because they needed to find something to do with the massive amount of leftover frozen Thanksgiving turkeys. The first Swanson-brand TV dinner was produced in the United States and consisted of a "Thanksgiving meal" of turkey, cornbread dressing, frozen peas and sweet potatoes.

Did YOU Know that The Guinness Book of Records states that the greatest dressed weight recorded for a turkey is 86 lbs, at the annual "heaviest turkey" competition held in London, England on December 12, 1989?  WOW -  wonder how many turkey sandwiches that would make.

Did YOU Know Khalil Semhat, a farmer from Lebanon had grown a 24.9 pound potato on his land-setting the world record for the Largest potato? That's a lot of mashed potatoes!

Did YOU Know a green bean grown by H. Hurley of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, in 1996 grew to a length of 48.75 inches.  Not sure what to do with that, unless you have a 12 lb can of mushroom soup...

Did YOU  Know the cranberry is actually one of only three fruits that are native to North America and it is served at 94% of Thanksgiving dinners?  Not sure about only three fruits but it is cool to hear that the cranberry is a Native.

Just remember that despite its crazy history and some of it's strange traditions, Thanksgiving is all about family and being thankful. After all when the pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving they were just happy to be alive (over half of them died before the first Thanksgiving) and most of us have much more than that to be thankful for this year.  From our Families to yours - Happy Thanksgiving!
