(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included. If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category. We have a special section for that purpose. If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations. Here is the link to this week's Pictures of the Week. Enjoy!)

Dear Family, Friends, and Friends of Friends,
David and I would like to thank you all for your generosity in contributing to our Scottsdale “Walk to Defeat ALS” team. Our team, David’s Carefree “Sole” Mates, had about 40 walkers on walk day proudly wearing our team shirts. This is my favorite picture of my PALS (Person with ALS) and me, David’s CALS (Caregiver), right before the walk.
We have been so grateful and humbled by your generosity. To date, we have raised $28,743 to benefit the AZ ALS Association. We never thought that could be possible. Walk donations will continue to be accepted through January of 2016. Here is a link to the website to see how we did and how we are doing: http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/Arizona?team_id=332049&pg=team&fr_id=10960
There will also be links to Walk photos on the website so you can see what a wonderful event it was. We had the privilege of being the 3rd team for donations and helped lead all the other teams at the start of the walk. It was truly a rewarding experience. Here is a picture of David leading the Team with his famous Ferrari hat held high!
Sometimes we all donate to a cause and then wonder if the donations are really doing any good. David and I can assure you that they do. Our local ALS Chapter continues to make a huge difference in our lives. They have provided us both with counseling and support, home visits, loan of equipment and referrals. All of the services they have, and will provide for us, are possible because of the money donated through fundraisers like this.
In addition, some of the money raised will go to research. As you know there is no cure for this disease. Research is not only needed for a cure, but also to discover medicines or procedures to help the PALS live as comfortable a life as possible. There is only one FDA approved medicine for ALS that prolongs life by about 2-3 months. It is just so sad.
Some of you are family, some close friends, and some of you we have never met, but ALL of you have touched our hearts. With your continued help, we are one step closer to finding a treatment or cure for this horrible disease. Thank you for everything that you have done to help us. Your support, friendship, and love are so very appreciated.
With Lots of Love and a VERY Big Hug,
Binka
(Lyn's note: This is the direct link for making donations to Binka's page on the David's Team "ALS Walk" fundraiser website. Donations will continue to be accepted through January, 2016. http://web.alsa.org/site/TR/Walks/Arizona?px=6972161&pg=personal&fr_id=10960#.VezY7HgXzFI. Let's show our appreciation of former Mayor David Schwan, and let's help find a cure for ALS!)

(Lyn's note: re the attempted abduction of a high school girl near here)
I had the thought that we advertise our missing pets and ask folks to be on alert… this should be something we REALLY pay attention to. Glad you sent it on a wide broadcast.
Thanks,
Barb
(Lyn's note: Thanks for sending me the email about it, Barb. Scary stuff.)
Thank you for sharing Lyn! I live right near where this incident happened and it was clear on Halloween, with only 10 kids, that parents were keeping an eye on their children. We normally have a BUNCH of kids. This is very scary!
Again, thank you for sharing and getting the word out.
Karen M.
Hi Lyn,
Here is a link to an ABC Channel 15 report I saw on an attempted abduction last Thursday in front of Cactus Shadows school. Appears to be in addition to those reported in your two alerts. Sounds like it happened right in front of the school.
Maybe Carefree COINS should run this as well.
Lloyd Meyer
(Lyn's note: It is the same attempt. I had the same thought about COINS. I sent Barbara's first email to Kandace and she sent it on to Jim. COINS ran it today, 11/2.)
Thank god they both broke away!! Thank you for this alert.
Tracy O'Shaughnessy
Hi Lyn, thank you for sending the alert out. Do they know what type of car they were driving ? What time did it happen and what did they look like? Thanks.
Carol O.
(Lyn's note: With more info coming out, and now 3 incidents reported in the N. Valley, it is very scary. The incident by Cactus Shadows involved a compact car, no other description. The one in N. Scottsdale was a red pick up truck. I haven't heard description of the vehicle down by Carefree Hwy and I-17. The girls are not thinking about getting descriptions of the men or the vehicles. They are just plain terrified, and happy to escape.)
Good God, that's right outside our gates. Mind you there are almost never pedestrians here. We bought the house here so our kids could walk to school and they refused, not out of safety issues but just because all their peers were driven....
Joan Dahmer
Why the hell is any parent with an IQ higher than a grape not picking up their daughters from school until this guy is caught? If the kids have cellphones tell them to take pictures. NO one walks home alone.
Susan Martin
(Lyn's note: I suspect not all the parents were aware of the problem, which is why it is important to get it out to the widest audiences with all possible methods. It is apparently widespread, since it has now occurred in 3 diverse locations within the space of a week.)
Too bad there aren’t some volunteers to walk w/ the kids.
Laurie Palace
Aren't the Police patrolling the surrounding the area, or do we have to get a group of parents to patrol? What time did these incidents happen? I will be happy to guard our children part of the time. I hope there are others who will help keep our children safe.
Joe Corpora
(Lyn's note: As far as I know, all these incidents happened to girls who were on their way home from school after extra curricular activities.)
Apparently there are big bucks to be made in this industry. I just read an article about this not two days ago. And as an FYI, I read this article with great interest, being the father of two girls, and a new granddaughter.
The USDOJ had just sentenced some 60 y.o. in nearby CA to six years in federal prison. Yes, I know - not enough time. I'm guessing he also 'assisted' the feds in rounding up a bunch more perverts in exchange for a lighter sentence. Anyway, in the article I read, this clown 'bought' a 14 y.o. and was trying to pimp her online. As an aside, and this may help people better understand, these pervs use the internet, specifically a place referred to as the "deep web," which advertises, among other things, children for sale or rent. It's not a website per se, but rather a difficult-to-reach level of the Internet one needs to access in order to avoid easy detection. There are websites that promote themselves as portals to reach this "deep web."
In the past, these child snatchers primarily targeted illegal immigrants, as they are easy prey and the parents are typically reluctant to complain to authorities. I suspect that the perv 'clients' are now demanding more.
I think that parents today don't realize the "market value" of their children. As horrible as this sounds, (grand)parents need to be vigilant and aware not only of the possibility of our children being kidnapped, but also the value these children represent in the illicit trade. When you take (or allow) your children out in public, you need to think as if you're walking something very expensive, that isn't all that difficult to grab and run.
In the past, garden-variety pervs were usually your only threat. But now it has become such a big business for child snatchers to make a sizable profit off the sale of your children.
More than you wanted to know, I'm sure. But I think if you better understand the motivations, you can better protect yourself, and especially your children.
Lyn, you can send this out to whomever you wish. But I prefer you not use my name.
When I was over at the Gardens I observed a couple with a cat on a leash. I asked them if I could take a pic of the kitty. They said okay so I shot several and then she took my email so she could get her contact info to me. I fear that when I gave her my info, it might have gotten mixed up because I’ve never heard back from her.
Can you show this pic to see if we can locate her. Or maybe someone will know her. The pictures are darling!!
Thanks for helping me out.

Thanks Lyn. All the accolades go to Gina and Ray and all his fellow carvers. I think they are the perfect team😊
LeAnda Merrihew
(Lyn's note: LeAnda was part of that winning team. Congratulations to all of you for putting together a great event.)
Outstanding event and well done by all! Proud to be a citizen of Carefree and the exposure garnered to our lovely Village community was impressive. Let's hope we are able to continue the relationship with Ray and use this opportunity as a catalyst for building upon a renewed arts community.
Thank you Lyn and Herb!

I just wanted to send a quick note with kudos to the town and particularly Gina, regarding the success of the Pumpkin Festival.
As you know, Venues Cafe is in it's sixth year and the amount of exposure the town received for this event was amazing.
Gina worked tirelessly and probably only was beaten by Ray Villafane in the lack of sleep department.
I am very impressed with the direction the town is going and excited to be part of the Carefree business community.
Thanks for all everyone did to make this event so successful.

Great videos Part 1 & 2. Watching the families and children enjoying the Pumpkin Festival with huge smiles on their faces made it all very special. Proud to be living here.
Congrats to the Town and to All who made it happen.
It was Enchanting.

I WANT TO LIVE THERE!!! Such cool stuff.. I didn’t want to leave.. Laurie Palace
Lyn,
Thanks for the heads up. Definitely going to the Craft Beer late this afternoon, to see the Pumpkins, and the Pancake and the Porsche show in the morning.

At around 11:32 last night, we experienced a very strong vibration that made our entire house shake. While there was no audible "boom" it felt like there'd been an explosion or some such occurrence. We fortunately found no source in/around our own house.
1. Did anyone else experience anything similar?
2. Any ideas as to the cause?
Kathy Riemer
(Lyn's note: We slept through it, but there was an earthquake at that time. I heard that the epicenter was in Black Canyon City, where it registered 4.3.)
Hi Amigos!
We are a group of friends who have supported one another and brought the truth to the residents of Cave Creek thru the Cave Creek Pony Express newspaper. The positive response to our first edition was overwhelming.
Our second edition of The Pony Express has doubled in size and will drop November 6th. It has also increased from 6 advertisements to 15 (our max). Advertising in The Pony Express is SOLD OUT thru February 1st, 2016, thanks solely to the efforts of Katya Kincel and Pauline Smith. In addition to the advertising in the November and December issues they recently landed the Buffalo Chip, Roadhouse, Hideaway, and others.
This paper is a "TEAM" effort. The future of our Town is right now and our paper is already making a difference.
NOW for the FUN!.......
The Pony Express has entered the Wild West Days Parade and hope all of us can march together and make a strong showing! It starts at 9:00am this Saturday, November 7th! Jane is bringing her mini horses, two will be pulling carts. Plan to wear your Pony Express t-shirt, jeans, and a straw cowboy hat (if possible). I will give you more details
soon.
HOPE TO SEE YOU NOVEMBER 7th!!!
