Lyn:
Keep up the good work with all you are doing for Carefree with your Carefree Truth, the Internet connection for Carefree merchants, and the new photo contest for the Carefree Desert Gardens.
Over the last couple of years, there has been an increase over previous years in PR that has benefited the Town. This is a result of a combination of factors.
I know that I obtained some column inches in the Scottsdale Republic for the Salute Our Veterans event (by the way it was the best attended of the three so far to date despite the cold weather), but a lot of credit for the increase in PR should go to Kim Prince of Proven Media. You probably know that she does the PR for the CBA and is a Board Member of the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce.
Most of us recall the many positive stories about the new Carefree Desert Gardens. Most recently, there was the front-page article in the Scottsdale Republic about the Carefree Christmas events scheduled for this weekend.
Having spent more years than I care to remember in the hospitality industry, including operations, sales and marketing, PR is a lot of hard work and stories do not just happen without some planning and hard work.
The Town’s PR has also been helped by the non-divisiveness of the Town Council. We may not always agree, but there is respect for other opinions without the criticism.
We should also be grateful to the Carefree Resort for their efforts to promote activities. Yes, it may be self-serving, but that property generates sales tax revenues that benefit all Carefree residents. We all talk about sales tax, but many overlook that there is a bed (sales) tax generated by the Carefree Resort and the Spirit in the Desert Retreat.
Often overlooked is the drink (sales) tax generated by all the Carefree establishments serving alcoholic beverages. So do not hesitate to enjoy that glass of Christmas cheer…but don’t overdo it!
All good reasons to “Shop Local…it makes cents”.
