CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 12/24/12
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
Lyn & Herbert
(Lyn's note: There were so many wonderful items packed into the 11/11/12 "Carefree Salute to Veterans" event that we missed Ted Dimon's excellent recital of "The Battle of the Republic". We received several requests for it. Herbert was kept busy with the Christmas Festival photos, but finally finished them, so had time to go back to find the Hymn. Fortunately, everything we film is kept stored, so it was easily available for retrieval. Here it is, with our apologies for missing it the first time. This YouTube is now posted on our website along with the others from the event. Enjoy, and thanks for your patience.)

Lyn, I had occasion to drive through the Carefree Town Center this evening while going to dinner and was very impressed by the Holiday Lights Display throughout the Center. For anyone who hasn't gone to the Center after dark I would highly recommend doing. It was quite impressive.

Remind me again...what does KGDS mean??!
Jo Gemmill
(Lyn's note: For those of you who don't know or have forgotten, Ed Morgan's signature KGDS stands for, "Keep Going; Don't Stop".)
WOW. What an impressive list of "contributors" in various categories. It speaks loudly to the remarkable community spirit here as well as to the hard work of those who made the Christmas Festival happen.

RE: Issue #207-Purchase of Open Space- I am proud to be part of a town that works to preserve natural beauty & historic sites for future generations. Kudos to all the people involved- the negotiators, the beneficent homeowners, the DFLT managers, etc for a job well done. Thank You All!
Fred Layman
Great job by all.

Lyn, I could not agree more. Well done.

I’m afraid I didn’t make it to the parade and fireworks – our good friends host a gingerbread party for a zillion kids every year, and it was that weekend. (They make shoebox size houses from scratch for 30+ families, with melted Jolly Ranchers for stained glass windows – completely over the top and amazing. Then all the kids decorate them. They are probably still picking sprinkles out of their floors!) I made it through the market on Friday and did some Christmas shopping, though! Merry Christmas, Lyn – thanks for all you do for this community, too!

Herbie and Lyn , the photos and YouTube of the Christmas Parade and fireworks are better than any professional could take. OUTSTANDING ! By the way, I was able to see the parade start to finish. Thank you for all the good community service you both provide.
LOVE
GLENN MILLER
(Lyn's note: Glenn never gets to see the parade because he is always running around working. He got to see it in pictures this year. And, yes, he says he looked at every one.)
Lyn
Thank you for including the Desert Foothills Library in this program. Although we couldn’t be part of the Parade of Lights, our Youth Services Librarian, Kerri Krist, was on hand with Mrs. Claus to provide stories and fun for the children on Saturday afternoon of the Festival.

(Lyn's note: The events in the Gardens will be the next set of pictures that Herbert processes. Mrs. Santa's Story Time is in that batch.)
Beautiful pics, thank you!

DRC 5th Annual Pasta for Paws
6 – 9 p.m. Jan. 15 at Carefree Resort
While long-time attendees are accustomed to having their pasta at a different venue, this year’s event promises a more inviting experience for all. With plenty of seating in Carefree Resort’s beautiful Opera House and the Silent Auction taking place in their lovely Kachina Courtyard, this signature event promises a delightful evening of class and style in support of the North Scottsdale animal rescue.
“Pasta for Paws is about raising money to help animals,” said Pasta for Paws Chairperson Kathy Gaines. “What better way to give than to have a fine dinner out in support of such a terrific cause. There will be multiple cash bars, a dance floor, balloon pop prizes and a special treat – a handful of adoptable dogs will be showcased during the event! It will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m., and we are pleased to have James Kole and his Band performing live.”
In early 2010 FAR purchased a new facility in North Scottsdale. This facility provides spacious cat rooms and individual dog suites. There is a medical clinic housing incoming animals and animals requiring medical care. Larger dogs are fostered in private homes. Foothills Animal Rescue was recently named as a worthy “Adoption Option” in Phoenix Magazine’s Best of the Valley issue.
Tickets to the DRC 5th Annual Pasta for Paws at Carefree Resort are $50 and are available online at www.foothillsanimal.org. Corporate Tables are $1,000 and come with many incentives. For more information, contact Chairperson Kathy Gaines at 480-452-2002 or kathy@foothillsanimal.org.
