If you have any suggestions or questions, please email Susan at salberts@dfla.org. We love to hear from you!
Children's Creative Corner Update
Unfortunately, several of our Disney and other popular dvds have disappeared. We would greatly appreciate their safe return. Due to budget constraints, we are unable to replace all of our missing children's movies.
Please remember that residents of Maricopa County (including children!) can get a library card with proof of address. A regular cardholder can check out three (3) dvds at a time.

January 2014
Dear Friends and Family of the Desert Foothills Library,
Happy 2014!
I may be a few days premature in wishing you all a happy new year, but it's never too early to look ahead. We've got some exciting programs coming up at the turn of the year. Our collaborative Knowing and Growing programs return next month with the help of the Scottsdale Public Library. Our LEGO club is back in full swing, with the addition of some newly donated blocks. If anyone has gently used LEGOs they would like to contribute to our growing collection, give us a call or bring them in. Our Teen Advisory Group will begin meeting again, too, with the goal of organizing our young adult volunteers and getting some more programs for teens up and running.
Let's make 2014 an even better year here at the library.
Don't forget that about our new NOOKs, e-books, and TumbleBooks for kids and teens! Email salberts@dfla.org for more information.
Did you know that the Desert Foothills Library is on Facebook and Twitter? See what's happening online and get our most up-to-date news.
*All events are FREE unless otherwise noted.

Calling all teens!
Do you want to get involved at the Desert Foothills Library? Whether you need volunteer hours for school, extracurricular activities, or simply love being at the library, come to this month's TAG meeting to see how you can be part of our library family.
We'll be discussing upcoming programs and events for teens, as well as projects that volunteers can undertake. Refreshments will be provided. The meeting will take place in our Teen Scene room.
The meeting does count as two hours of volunteer service. If you have a form or log that needs to be signed, please bring it with. Thank you!

Lego Build It!
Returns January 30
Last Thursday of the Month
4:00-5:00 pm
(Ages 4+)
Our LEGO club has been on a bit of a hiatus during the holiday season, but we'll be back in full swing in January! The library has acquired some new, larger blocks for the younger kids as well, to make the program more accessible to all ages. Come spend an evening building elaborate creations or simple machines with other LEGO fans!
Of course, LEGOs are fun, but did you know that they can support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education as well? Not to mention teamwork!
Note: Legos will be provided by the Library. Please do not bring your own Legos as they could get lost in the Library's Lego supply.
If you have new or gently used Legos that you would like to donate to the Library, please contact Susan Alberts at (480) 488-2286 or salberts@dfla.org.

In the Community:
At Home in the Desert is a new, Arizona premier play written by Phyllis Strupp and directed by Aubrey Grace Watkins. An AZ Centennial Legacy Project, this one-act theatrical production tells the story of a 12-year-old girl, Chloe, who is forced to move away from her home to live with her aunt in the Arizona desert. She feels uncomfortable in her new surroundings and is confronted by bullies at her new school. Chloe is led on a journey by her guides Mashath and Albert to embrace the beauty of the desert and find her inner strength.
Community sponsors include Carefree Kiwanis, Cave Creek Museum, CCUSD/Education and Community Services, Desert Foothills Library, Foothills Academy Elementary, and Foothills Community Foundation (Desert Awareness Committee, Desert Foothills Theater, Partners in Education).
Auditions for At Home in the Desert will take place Monday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 29 from 4-7 pm at the Holland Center on 60th Street and are open to all ages, 7 and up. There are many youth and adult roles available! To audition, you must sign up for a 15 minute time slot where you will read from the script with other auditioners. You don't need to prepare anything.
