KARSTEN’S ACE HARDWARE RECEIVES A SPECIAL VISIT FROM
THE ACE CARES FOR KIDS All-STAR
Phoenix child, Aiden Morales, named “All-Star” to benefit Children’s Miracle Network
Karsten's Ace Hardware of Cave Creek, 28220 N. Tatum Blvd., Cave Creek, received a very special visit in January from this year’s Ace All-Star, Aiden Morales. The Ace Hardware Foundation named Aiden the second annual National Ace Cares for Kids All-Star in January.
As part of this prestigious recognition, Aiden will become the national ambassador for the Ace Foundation, raising awareness of the excellent work that is done at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country.
Local storeowners, Dave and Cheryl Karsten, gave Aiden a tour of the store where he met the team and made a stop at the new paint studio.
The Karsten’s staff looks forward to working with Aiden and the Morales family by sharing his story. As the 2014 Ace Ambassador, Aiden will assist fundraising efforts throughout the year for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Aiden has a big job in front of him and we are here and ready to stand behind [him] and help support his efforts,” said David Karsten.
In addition to serving as an ambassador for the Ace Foundation, Aiden will become the face of the Ace Cares for Kids icon campaign, a national in-store fundraising initiative supported by Procter & Gamble, designed to raise funds at Ace Hardware stores for local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
The Karsten’s also own Ace Hardware stores in Carefree and Goodyear, Arizona. Their Cave Creek store was established in 2002. For more information call 480-513-7020 or visit karstensace.com.
As a proud supporter of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Ace Hardware has been dedicated to raising funds for children’s hospitals all over the country, including Phoenix Children’s. Over the past 22 years, the Ace Foundation has raised more than $58 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
About the Ace Hardware Foundation
As the official charitable division of Ace Hardware Corporation, the Ace Hardware Foundation helps enhance the vision of being the “Helpful Place” in local communities across the country and around the globe through charitable giving. The Ace Foundation provides support and philanthropic opportunities to its consumers, retail store owners, vendors and team members to give back to local communities through fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Did YOU Know
Did YOU Know there are various theories on the origin of Valentine's Day? The most popular dates back to the time of the Roman Empire during the reign of Claudius II, 270 A.D. Claudius didn't want men to marry during wartime because he believed single men made better soldiers. Bishop Valentine went against his wishes and performed secret wedding ceremonies. For this, Valentine was jailed and then executed by order of the Emperor on February 14. While in jail, he wrote a love note to the jailor's daughter, signing it, "From your Valentine." Sound familiar? Since Valentine decorations and candy have been in every store since the day after Christmas, I am sure you are aware that Valentine's Day is Friday. Did YOU Know the most popular Valentine's Day gift to give your Sweetheart is flowers and chocolates? Did YOU Know 189 million stems of roses are sold in the U.S. on Valentine's Day? If you want to think outside the heart shaped box this year for your Valentine remember to Shop Local! We have many local stores that would be happy to help you find that special something for your special sweetheart!
~Did YOU Know in addition to the U.S., Valentine's Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Denmark and Italy?
~Did YOU Know the most fantastic gift of love is the Taj Mahal in India? It was built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan as a memorial to his wife.
~Did YOU Know in the 1800s doctors commonly advised their heartbroken patients to eat chocolate, claiming it would sooth their pain? To this day, many women find comfort in chocolate when dealing with heartbreak. (Or alcohol)
~Did YOU Know about 3 percent of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets? Is this weird?
~Did YOU Know that there are an average of 220,000 wedding proposals on Valentine's Day each year?
Whether you feel the love or the pressure of Valentine's Day just remember it is on a Friday! I have never met a Friday that I didn't LOVE!! Have a great week!!

History Highlights
History Highlights
From the Cave Creek Museum
(Kraig Nelson)
Cave Creek had its own version of Annie Oakley. Her name was Catherine J. Jones. She was about five feet tall and known as "Cattle Kate" (she preferred Catherine). The deputy sheriff was never completely dressed unless she had her low-slung, holstered .38 Colt. Her .410 shotgun was never far. Cattle Kate was a dead-aim; everyone knew it. Catherine and her husband, Theodore, homesteaded two sections of land in 1925. They named the spread Willow Springs Ranch. A Hopi Chief translated the name of the Cave Creek ranch for the Jones'-still known today as Cahava Ranch.

•If you find a glove on Valentine's Day, your future spouse will have the other glove. - Not sure if I would be happy with a spouse that loses things??
•The number of seeds you find in an apple you eat on Valentine's Day indicates how many children you will have. - Note to self - don't eat an apple on Friday!!!
