Dear Museum Friends and Supporters,

February's Artifact of the Month extends Valentine's Day's theme of love to weddings.

Please click on the highlighted text to "virtually" visit our February 2014 Artifact of the Month.

And since we're on the topic of weddings, did you know that the outside website that refers the most people to our website is ArizonaWeddingChapels.org? Month in and month out, we get more visitors to our website from them than from anyone else. So, in response to that strong interest, we recently updated that landing page (Hosting Events) to place more emphasis on weddings. As you may know, we use the Historic Church in combination with the main museum to host weddings. Please check out our newly updated Hosting Events page if you are curious or know someone who might be interested in having their wedding in a unique and historic venue.

As always, thank you for your continued support!

Cave Creek Museum is proud to preserve the history of the Desert Foothills.

2014 Home Tour
More Information About the Homes
Home Tour Order Form

February 14, 2014

Hello again Museum Friends and Supporters!

Several of you have been kind enough to call to our attention that the prior email did not contain a direct link to information about the homes in this year's tour.

This year’s tour features four unique homes that range from Western traditional to unconventional:

Boulder House, owned by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. This widely-acclaimed Boulder House was designed by Charles E. Johnson around, over and under enormous outcrops of weathered granite and was featured on the cover of Architectural Digest.
Bowman Home: This charming classic southwest home is warm and welcoming, but its enchantment is the compelling array of Indian artwork that is wonderfully displayed along with the owner’s own skilled paintings and portraits.
Collins Home: Geometry was never more inviting nor comfortable. This unique Black Mountain home with stunning views covers all the angles of compact living, creating energetic conviviality and dynamic interest.
The Tyrol Home: Elegance and relaxed ranch lifestyles blend beautifully in this inviting southwest home on 18 acres near the creek.

A self-guided tour, the event provides the flexibility to choose which homes you want to see. The Museum will provide a pamphlet that serves as your ticket and includes the history and a detailed description of each home. Docents will point out additional aspects of each home and provide additional information of interest. Once you have your admission pamphlet, you can start the tour at any of the four homes.

Please check our website periodically as we will post updates (such as additional photos) as they become available.

Cave Creek Museum is proud to preserve the history of the Desert Foothills.

Hi, Lyn,

This is the eleventh year that the Kiwanis Club of Carefree will offer Art Enrichment Internships to students in the Desert Foothills area. The application deadline is April 2, therefore we sincerely hope that you'll find space in an upcoming issue of "Carefree Truth" so that families will have the opportunity to learn about the Internship and apply. A full and detailed media release is attached.

Briefly, six to eight students will be selected for the Kiwanis Club of Carefree Art Enrichment Internship, with enrollment in the summer visual arts course of their choice at the nationally renowned Scottsdale Artists' School in downtown Scottsdale. Funding for the program is provided through the generosity of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree.

Scottsdale Artists' School offers a wide variety of courses. Summer course descriptions will be available inspringatwww.scottsdaleartschool.org. Student artists may, as an alternative to attending Scottsdale Artists' School, find a mentor of their own choosing.

Internships are intended for any freshman, sophomore or junior in high school (public, charter, private or home-schooled), living in the Desert Foothills area. Applicants must meet the requirements and submit the forms posted on the Carefree Kiwanis web site: www.kiwaniscarefree.org. For assistance with the application, applicants should call the Carefree Kiwanis at 480.488.8400 or Virginia Brooks at 480.220.6696.

Hi, Lyn,

We'd very much appreciate your assistance in getting the word out about the Arizona Musicfest Scholarship application, available online at www.azmusicfest.org, so that interested and qualified young classical musicians (graduating seniors from public, private and charter schools, including students who are homeschooled), and their families are aware of this financial opportunity.

The Arizona Musicfest Scholarship Application Period is now through April 7, 2014. “This will be the fourth year in a row that Arizona Musicfest will award a college-level scholarship,” said Jim Morrissey, Arizona Musicfest Scholarship Coordinator.

The Arizona Musicfest Scholarship Decision Committee seeks applications from deserving, highly qualified Arizona high school seniors who will graduate during spring or summer of 2014, and enroll in a college-level music performance program prior to December 31, 2014.

“We hope to discover a student who excels at his or her instrument, is a seasoned performer, and is determined to pursue a college-level education with the goal of establishing a full or part-time career in classical music performance,” said Morrissey.

In addition to the student’s performance abilities, also taken into account will be high school academic record, personal enthusiasm, and third-party recommendations. “All things being equal,” added Morrissey, “any past involvement by the applicant in any of the many Arizona Musicfest youth performance programs will be considered.”

The Scholarship award will be $2,500.00. It will be paid directly by Arizona Musicfest to the recipient’s school. The winning applicant will also be considered for additional awards for the remaining three years of college.

Applications can be downloaded now at www.azmusicfest.org. The application deadline is April 7, 2014, at midnight. The winner will be announced on May 1, 2014.

Anyone with questions should contact the Arizona Musicfest Scholarship Coordinator Jim Morrisseyatscholarship@azmusicfest.org
