CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 3/1/11
Good answer, Jim. We have a long history of dedicated citizens and former council people who have served the town and continue to encourage other citizens to also get involved in the town. That’s how many of them were attracted to serve and why they encourage others to serve. I guess that could be characterized as a lobbying effort, but it sort of misses the point.
I think most of our citizens simply want to continue to attract competent council members with a good professional background and demonstrated commitment to our community, without some kind of personal agenda involved. If those qualifications are in place, how one may contribute to or vote on a particular issue in the future is really secondary because we can’t know in advance what issues or circumstances may develop. Your professional background, personal values, and record of service to our community speak for itself and I’m sure is the reason you are receiving a broad range of support. I think your background and record of service instills confidence that should you be elected and called on to study an issue and make a decision in the future, you will bring the right disciplines to that decision at that time. I thought your answer reflected that sentiment well.
Again, really appreciate the effort you are putting forth on this.

Hi Lyn,
From your reports, it sounds like Carefree is waking up and becoming a vital entity. Yippee!!!

(Lyn's note: Kay is referring to the good news about the new playground.)
Lyn,
> > I understand there exists a nasty battle of opposing sides for community positions. Nothing new. Also old news, is that it takes nasty people to make a nasty battle. I've read articles in the Sonoran News, which I found heavy on antidote, light on hard information.

From what I've seen, she's working to build bridges between people and toward tomorrow. Our country is in dire need of leaders that bring people together. Those that factor sides and hurt, build nothing and are a huge cause of our demise.

The artists who are allowed to exhibit their wares in her gallery and on the street in front of her establishment bring a class-act to her life. Art crosses all boundaries. Art is long; life is short. Art hangs in museums, yellow journalism lines bird cages.

This is better than a newspaper. Read and view videos is the way to go.

Lyn: Re the signs. I think they are fine. If one wants to see out-of-control signage, one only has to look to our neighboring town; but if it works for them, why not. Ours are a paragon of grace and beauty in comparison. It would not matter if the signs were designed by Michelangelo, some would complain.

(Lyn's note: I also like the signs. The signs are the colors of our state flag, which is based on our glorious sunsets. But one can never please all of the people, all of the time, and the unhappy ones tend to be the most vocal. It's human nature.)
On behalf of the Desert Foothills Posse Organization, of which I am a retired member, I would like to encourage your to consider the following:
1) The annual Donation drive for the Posse, by letters received this week, are in the homes of our Foothills Citizens. This is the only time of the year that the Posse asks for Citizen support.
2) Your Posse devoted almost 18,000 hours FREE, in 2010 to help the Sheriff's Office in dozens of ways. Each of their tasks helps the Towns of Carefree and Cave Creek in relieving Deputies from tasks and then allowing them to focus on service to the communities.
3) The fully marked, black Squad Cars, owned by the Posse were all acquired thru donations...NO State, County or Sheriff Office funds are directed to the Posse...These cars were driven over 50,000 miles in the year of 2010, serving the Communities.
4) In addition, the individual members of the Posse used their own cars an additional 53,000 miles...all at no expense to our governments.
5) In addition, the Posse and it's members invest, each year, additional funds for uniforms, equipment, radio's, training and these costs can total up to $ 6,000 per Posse Member.
As you put out your monthly newsletters, or follow up on the Council Meeting, PLEASE give YOUR hometown Posse a big plug. Donations are tax deduct able as the Posse is a 501 (c) organization.
Many thanks from myself and the 32 men and women who serve YOU.
Jim Van Allen, retired Desert Foothills Posse Member.
I just read the Scottsdale Republic and feel that one thing was lacking in the interview with Mayor David Schwan and Doug Stavoe. It was about running a successful business. I feel it is critical that someone let the Scottsdale Republic audience know that Doug does not know how to run a business – three unsuccessful ones that we know of. I see this as Mayor Schwan's strong point, running a town successfully as a business and, of course, his honesty. During these difficult economic times with most all our cities and states failing because they have no funds to stay afloat, Mayor Schwan is a hero as far as I am concerned. I was at a Carefree Town council meeting and was shocked to hear that Carefree is healthy, stronger than nearly every city in Arizona, and to top it off there is money in their bank account. All I can say is bravo to Mayor Schwan.
When Doug Stavoe was president of the Merchants' Association, Chamber of Commerce executive director Ian told me that he asked Doug if he wanted to have another Halloween event and he said “no”. No Halloween event that year. My understanding was that Doug never spoke to the Merchants' Association about it. This is such an important public relations event for the merchants to include the children of their community. Doug showed no compassion for our children – our future.
I certainly hope that I am not out of line as I am not a Carefree resident, but have been doing business with the Carefree Chamber of Commerce for 20 years. Our country is struggling now because our leaders have never experienced running a successful business like Mayor Schwan has.
Kind regards,

Hi Lyn,
The current Dictator of Libya has much in common with the current Dictator of the Sonoran News, in that they are both Megalomaniacs. This delusional mental disorder, marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur, fits both of them perfectly. Gaddafi destroys those who oppose him with "words and bullets". Sorchych destroys those who oppose him with "words as bullets". This oppression of the people results in a revolution, which is being experienced both in Libya and Carefree. The people's voices are being heard and both regimes will eventually be toppled. Thanks for your consistent dedication to the "Truth" in the Carefree Truth!
