CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 3/16/11
WOW, THANKS CAREFREE VOTERS
Other than the tragedy in Japan on Friday, the day was great for this 'write in candidate' for Carefree Town Council. To receive 531 votes from our fine citizens who took the time to write in my name was more than I ever expected. It perhaps is the first time, ever, that a write in is going ahead to the run off election in May.
I called each of the winners who got the magical 50% plus one vote and congratulated them. Each, in turn, said they looked forward to seeing me join them after May 17. Carefree is going to have a GREAT group of folks taking care of the Town's business. And also, the Town for the first time ever will have the "Peoples' Mayor" in charge.
The job is not done just yet. I will have to continue to work hard to encourage all those who voted for me to do so again, and to bring with them a couple of hundred more folks to do the same. Being on the ballot will be a distinct plus next go around. Unless some other citizens file to run as write ins there will be only two of us on the ballot.
My warmest thanks to all those who supported my candidacy and got out the vote...also to those who will do so again during the next 2 months. I won't let you down now. Lightning is still going to strike.
Respectfully,
JIM Van Allen, Town Council Candidate
Lyn,
Of course, it's imperative that everyone interested in having a sane and honest city council, MUST take the trouble to vote Jim Van Allen into office in the run-off election.

Congratulations to you and Herb because clearly you "out-communicated" Sorchych and the Coady website. So, what role do you see for Carefree Truth after the election? I hope that you will continue to provide updates on local politics and events, and to explain those subtle and sometimes confusing local issues. I know all this takes a lot of time and effort, but I believe you've become the best source of information for Carefree residents. As always, I hope people will also make the effort to attend Council meetings, join local volunteer groups, and generally participate in Carefree activities. This is a great little town.
Ann
(Lyn's note: We absolutely plan to continue. We will be thrilled if we can become "boring", reporting lots of positives, which I think is a good possibility!)
Dear Lyn,
I am disgusted with the letter posted by a woman on the SN website about Holly Bergman. What vile misdirected anger and hatred towards a woman that has been a shining light for the town of Carefree for many years. Who cares if Holly is not resident of Carefree; she is a successful business owner and visionary for a town that really needs her.
The last time I checked this is America and you're entitled to your political opinion no matter where you live. Who crowned her Queen, thinking she can silence debate with her petty, sour grape words?
I have been a very satisfied customer of Holly's Art Gallery for years now. I felt like I needed to speak up for Holly, who in my opinion is a model citizen. I am proud to call her my friend, and the best friend Carefree could hope to have in these troubled economic times.
Sincerely
Jake
