I would like to commend Councilman Van Allen for his recognition of the fine services Judge Scull has provided to Carefree. The Judge is one of those special people who makes Carefree one of the most envied communities in the Valley. Thanks, Councilman, and sincere thanks to Judge Scull. May he walk his precious dog in our Carefree Gardens for years to come. KGDS!!

Don't know 'how busy da Judge is' or if it's part time - but in either case it's a real bargain especially if he's a good man/Judge.
Larry Holland
(Lyn's note: The judge is a contract employee, so is not considered part or full time. He works on an as needed basis. Court is held once a week. If he is needed more, for instance when a search warrant is required, he provides the service.)
Thank you for the great write up on the library. It is a facility that can be used by all ages for little or no cost to the user.
Coe Gardner
This is very interesting, but I would like to know what are the $550,000 yearly expenses??? Sounds high, as D. Court is the only paid full time employee. What /and how many part time do they have, considering they have so many good volunteers. What has the Town of Carefree done in the past? We are most fortunate to have DFL and we should be eager to support it.
June Reilly
In answer to June’s points, I would comment as follows:The Library’s expenditure is apportioned as follows:
General administration expenses – 11.5%
Payroll expenses – 46.5%
Library operations, including materials (books, etc.) – 19%
Cost of income – 6.5%
Building expenses – 16.5%
In addition to me, the Library has 2 Librarians which are 1.5 employees, full time equivalent. We also have 6 other part-time employees. The Library has about 140 volunteers who, amongst other things, operate the circulation desk, undertake shelving and operate the bookstore.
The Library is open for business 355 days a year.
I will let you comment on the past input by the towns by they did contribute to the capital campaign, but not operationally for 3 years.
Kind regards.
David G. Court
Executive Director
Desert Foothills Library
(Lyn's note: Historically, Carefree donated approximately 3% of the annual budget in grants to the local non-profits, including the library. For the past 3 fiscal years, due to the global economic downturn, this has not been possible.)
Thanks for the info. I hope he understands that my questions were from a positive standpoint.
June
(Lyn's note: I'm sure he does, and I suspect that others had the same questions, so this provides answers to everyone. Thanks for asking, June.)
Please join Jeff and I at our new fundraiser for Foothills Animal Rescue. All the info is on the attached poster. A wonderful night of rock-n-roll for $100.00 a ticket. There will be a raffle for a large Mitch Henderson painting. Donated by Jeff and I. Let's save some lives of dogs and cats.
