(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included. If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category. We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well. Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale. He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite. It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall. If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.) Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Where is this located?

(Sandy is asking about the FAR resale boutique that is regularly listed on our emailing for the non-profits. It is located on Pima, just south of Pinnacle Peak, on the west side of the road, in front of their animal rescue facility. The boutique has some really neat stuff, the prices are cheap, cheap, cheap, and the money it raises helps the dogs and cats. They are always looking for donations of clothes and household goods, and have recently opened a furniture barn, so if you want to donate stuff you no longer use, think of FAR. It's tax deductible too.)
(Excerpted from COINS)
Firefighters of Rural Metro Fire are conducting their annual inspection of all the fire hydrants in Carefree. They will begin on the eastern side of Carefree and work their way west. This annual inspection ensures that all the fire hydrants are functioning as designed and makes the firefighters familiar with the location of the hydrants.
Please drive with caution to protect your first responders as they work to protect you.
Phil Corso sent some photos to me that he took with his cell phone, one of which is below, asking if I had any idea what this was since it is quite unusual. He noticed it off of Cave Creek road, not far from the Carefree airport, and thought it was on airport property. I contacted a friend of mine who is involved with the airport. She did some digging and found that there was a motorcycle fatality at that spot 18 months ago, and the shrine was erected as a memorial to the cyclist. A number of his friends continue to visit it. The shrine is not on airport property, but is located on the State Land Trust ground beyond the airport. If anyone else has noticed this and wondered, that's the answer. Judging by the shirt, the cyclist was probably a student who played on a sports team. And judging by the empty Jack Daniels bottle buried neck down, alcohol was probably involved. Very sad.
