Court Warning: Bogus Phone Calls, Emails May Lead to Fraud
Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County and the Maricopa County Justice Courts has become aware of telephone scams targeting members of the public and threatening them with prosecution for failing to pay court fines or fees.
These calls, which threaten recipients with fines and jail time if they do not provide sensitive information or payment, are fraudulent and are not connected with the Superior Court.
Superior Court and the Justice Courts do not require anyone to provide any sensitive information in a telephone call or email. Most contact from the Court will be through the U.S. mail, and any phone contact by court officials will not include requests for cash, Social Security numbers, credit card numbers, or any other sensitive information.
Many customers, especially those in minor traffic cases, do make payments of fines and fees using a credit card and often do so by phone. If contacted by someone saying they are with the Court please call the court/county number back to verify the validity of the call before making any payment. Also, as an option to making payments over the phone please know that many courts offer online payment methods that are safer.
Persons who believe they were a target of a scam should not provide the requested information, and should notify the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by filing a complaint through their Website: https://www.azag.gov/complaints/consumer. The Attorney General will provide information to law enforcement for investigation.

Just wonderful!

(Lyn's note: I was contacted by a number of people who asked me why they didn't see Bob Gemmill, Holly and Jeff Bergman, and Melissa Price at David Schwan's memorial service last Saturday. There are probably many more who are also wondering, so here is what I know. Bob Gemmill had just had hernia surgery, which was why Jo attended alone. Holly and Jeff Bergman were attending the Bat Mitzvah of the daughter of a dear family friend. Jeff was one of the speakers. None intended offense to David or Binka, and they sent nice notes to Binka. Melissa Price gave conflicting reasons to different people for her failure to attend.
Thank you for including all the touching remembrances. One little correction; David's birthday is Sept. 3.
And Herbie, I always enjoy your photos, particularly flowers and your "kids." The sculpture/shadow shot is great.
Anita
(Lyn's note: Anita is David's sister.)
Lyn,
Excellent tribute to a remarkable man. You touched many of us with your words about David's grace, passion, intellect and commitment to our wonderful community. He will be remembered and missed by many and especially myself.
My deepest condolences to Binka.
Sincerely,
Michael Farrar
Lyn, you continue to show why I am proud to be your partner. Your tribute to Mayor Schwan shows how much you do for those of us who live in Carefree and loved David Schwan.
"You put my feelings into words."

(Lyn's note: Joe and I are the co-chairs of the Carefree Desert Gardens Photo Contest. I love him dearly!)
Herb and Lyn,
Thank you very much for the short video of David Schwan's Celebration of Life reception. It was very touching and wonderfully done.
Sincerely,
Michael Farrar
Lyn,
How blessed and wonderful it is to be part of a caring community. My sincere thanks to Kandace, Town of Carefree, and Alberto's, Carefree Bistro, Harold's and Venues for their expression of thoughtfulness of their kind donations to Mayor David Schwan's Memorial Service.
Thank you,
Desert Hills Presbyterian Church
Judie Preston and Myra Sherriff
(Lyn's note: The 4 restaurants mentioned all donated food for the reception after the service.
Since I didn't know David Schwan personally I can only imagine what a wonderful man he must have been by the tremendous turnout at his memorial service.
His wife also must be so proud that she married a man that was so esteemed by his fellow man. This tribute almost brought me to tears to see so much good-ness in our small town of Carefree. We should be proud.
Lois Treacy
Great job Herbie. Thank you.
Betsy Wise
Thanks for including me in this.....so sad....

Lyn,
This was beautiful. I would love to see the video of the full service when it is ready. Thank you for what you and Herbie do for all of us!

A wonderfully done short video, Lyn and Herbert. We look forward to seeing the full-length one when it is ready.
Carefree is the amazing place it is because so many of its citizens share so freely of their gifts. David and Binka have done so, and you and Herbert certainly do as well. Our thanks.

I'm SOOOOO happy Herbie is making a video. We were out of town and friends told us of David's tribute. I was wishing Herbie was on it, but thought it might be asking too much. David Schwan, a one of a kind, excellent human being! We were all so fortunate to have him at the helm of our great town. I'll watch every minute of the video, me and my box of Kleenex.

An email I received from Councilwoman Melissa Price stated at the beginning that during her first term, "I used to write/publish a newsletter for the Town called "Carefree Today." Is "Carefree Times" a new Town of Carefree correspondence, done in her capacity as a Council member, as appears to be the case? The name and format are quite similar. I must say, I was rather surprised by some of the content.

(Lyn's note: No, Carefree Times is Melissa Price's personal campaign correspondence, and is in no way connected with or sanctioned by the Town of Carefree.)
Just off the top of my head, I'd suggest Ms. Price might consider what qualities are needed in a Mayor if the goal is to create an efficient, hard-working Council and productive town employees. Her divisiveness, self-aggrandizement, and a fantasy-laden view of her accomplishments would not be assets to the job.
After years of in-fighting and ego-driven grand-standing in our local government, Carefree finally matured to the point that we had an effective, rather harmonious town leadership. The late Mayor, David Schwan, and current Mayor Les Peterson, have set the tone with thoughtful listening, respect for all, and constant civility. Mayor Schwan demonstrated mastery of financial planning, with a willingness to spend when it would truly help the town, and a resistance to fly-by-night and unrealistic projects. Ms. Price's clawing for recognition and desperate claims of personal accomplishments that are completely unrealistic are a taste of times gone by in this town. I fear Ms. Price will destroy all that has been accomplished. Perhaps she should consider moving to our neighboring town where Wild West fighting is still in style.
Irene
(Lyn's note: Melissa Price's email campaign message attempted to denigrate former Mayor David Schwan less than 24 hours after his memorial service, as well as denigrating current Mayor Les Peterson. Some found this inappropriate and upsetting. It made Binka cry.)
Lyn,
Please let the public know Melissa Price is on the short list as Hillary's running mate.
