CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 4/26/13
(Lyn's note: Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week. Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included. If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category. If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations. The Gypsy horses in the first photos belong to my friend Peggy. In the second one, where they are rearing towards each other, they had been apart for a while and were happy to see one another. They were playing.)

I wish more people would do what you and I do. We had a great meal at the Resort last night. Bronco waited on us. Everyone's order was done to perfection. I had the crusted asparagus appetizer and the Chilean Sea Bass. Absolutely excellent.

A good idea about the resort. I’ll try that for John’s birthday in a few weeks.

Update on Melanie from FAR
Melanie is doing great. Gail ( shelter manager) just stopped by Therese’s house, who is fostering Melanie during her recovery, and Melanie was alert and happy. She was actually trying to get the sock that Therese’s mom was putting on her foot. ( smiles all around) Her surgery was more complicated than originally thought. She did have severe damage , with most of her intestines, gall bladder and liver entering her chest cavity. A mesh insert was needed to repair the hole. She will be in recovery for 2 weeks and then hopefully this will be her last visit to the vet for a very long time!! I know she is ready to go home with a loving family and be spoiled. We do have an adopter that is just waiting for the final word that she is alright. Thank you to all that have been supporting and praying for Melanie. Please contact the shelter at 480-488-9890 to make a donation to our Health and Wellness fund that enables us to help other animals in need like Melanie or send a check to 23030 N Pima Rd, Scottsdale AZ 85255. Thank you for your generosity.

Lyn, Kiwanis is helping to start a new program. The new program is centered around a "Science Club" that offers students who are interested in science an opportunity to participate in "hands on" projects of their choosing. Said another way we let students,
preferably in teams, build something....something that excites them, and we, teachers and Kiwanis members provide mentoring and if necessary some financial support.
This year we are starting with 5 teacher selected students, focusing on Arduino (Open source programming), finishing projects by the end of year and then using these projects as examples at the beginning of next school year to recruit members from the entire CCUSD High School class.
Our belief is that letting students "be creative" will get science
oriented students interested and hopefully keep them interested as they consider further education in the sciences.
Thanks for your interest.

P.S. Both the Marketplace and Flea Market will be open for a big sale day Saturday May 4. The money we make is used for our kids programs.
Great update. Appreciate all your letters. Loved watching the youtube video.
