Hello, Lyn and thanks so very much!

I certainly see why you write the Carefree Truth. I really enjoyed your note to me and have forwarded it onto many of my friends who have delighted in your cute quips as well.

Thank you so much for the nice article in the Carefree newsletter. It was certainly an honor to have had the opportubity to speak before the Town Council and receive the Proclamation from the Mayor.

Oh, yes! I had the pleasure of meeting Binka Schwan as she took a photo for me with the Mayor. (Darn! No shoes in this one either.)

Patti Meese

(Lyn's note: I had sent Patti the issue in which she "starred" and said that, being a man, my husband had not bothered to film her cute high heels, which were actually mentioned in her presentation because she could again wear them after the therapy she had undergone for her Parkinson's Disease.)

Hello again, Lyn.

First of all, I must apologize for my late response to your earlier email regarding your wonderful article in the Carefree Truth. I have been so busy during PD Awareness month that important emails such as yours have gone unanswered until now. (More photos of a crazy busy PD Advocate are below.)

Please feel free to contact me if I can help anyone regarding Parkinson's. I didn't know where to turn or what to do for months after hearing those dreaded words: "You have Parkinson's!" Time stood still and I'm not sure if I've ever fully recovered. But I fight back to all of the daily challenges and help as many people as I can to "make it through - one day at a time."

To me, 'knowledge is power' and I'm always eager to share info or help anyone who's going through the daily life challenges in their quest to deal with this debilitating disease.

I thank you so much for all that you do.

I think the new Carefree Desert Garden is an asset to the town, a beautiful place for residents and visitors, and I obviously enjoyed taking photos of it. So, thanks for the contest. The prizes were an added delight.

A lot of jurisdictions do staggered terms. It facilitates continuity.

I really appreciate this summary Lyn, thank you.

I am filled with GREAT admiration for Herb's ability to edit the various meetings and hone it down into hitting the important facts, and showcasing that the entire Council was behind this initiative in the past because it makes sense for those Council citizens that come 'after us'. I don't believe for one second that anyone on this Council wants to 'stay in power forever' (what power?!), glory and fame (Sonoran News?!), and it's certainly not for the pay (we totally 'volunteered' for this). The new Council Members talked about this during League training (before being sworn in even) and were stymied as to why citizens would not vote for the continuity gained with staggered terms for those trying to manage the town. The only reason I could come up with is that folks are only educated on the negatives associated with National politics and I agree -- those people need to be recycled more often! However, WE are a small local community--nonpartisan, and we do not have 'career politicians' but rather people who LOVE THEIR TOWN, want to serve and move on. Hopefully we can educate people about the positives of staggered terms and the continuity/history it gives new people that are elected in the future. Thanks to your video, perhaps this is a good start. Thanks, Lyn and Herb.

QUEEN ELIZABETH DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATION

JUNE 2 and 3 AT ENGLISH ROSE TEA ROOM IN CAREFREE

Celebrate with England and the world at authentic British-style, two-day street party with double-decker bus, guests in tiaras and fancy hats, royal souvenirs, canine Corgis, formal afternoon tea and more.

CAREFREE Ariz, (April 11, 2012)—This June marks the official British holiday to commemorate the 60th year of Queen Elizabeth’s reign in England.

For those looking to celebrate the historic Diamond Jubilee on this side of the Atlantic, head to the English Rose Tea Room in Carefree for an authentic, British-style, two-day street party to commemorate England’s longest reigning monarch.

Business owner Joanne Gemmill, who is originally from England, will host the street party from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3 at the English Rose Tea Room, 201 Easy Street in Carefree.

Guests will experience royal encounters with life size cutouts of the Queen, Prince William and Princess Catherine, original footage of the 1953 coronation, jeweled tiaras and fancy hats, and an opportunity to meet the Queen’s loyal corgi canine cousins and more. A royal pavilion set up outside of the restaurant and a double-decker bus are also part of the festivities.

Admission is $50 and includes formal tea service, Jubilee cake, a goody bag with official royal souvenirs and an event program. Seating is limited. Reservations are recommended by calling the English Rose Tea Room, 480-488-4812. For more information, visit www.carefreetea.com.

Sparking international interest, royal celebrations are currently underway throughout the world to honor the Queen’s Jubilee. The Jubilee party will culminate with an official British Holiday in England, taking place over the first weekend in June.

“If you missed our royal wedding celebration, now is your chance to become a part of history and join me in celebrating my Queen’s 60th year,” said Gemmill. The Carefree, Arizona celebration will rival those in England and be among the most authentic in the United States, she added.

Guests attending are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite royal, don fancy hats and tiaras, and wear other royal fashions. Hats will also be available for purchase at the event.
