(Lyn's note:  Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week. http://carefreetruth.com/Carefree_Truth/Photos_5-13-13.html

I believe that people are the most important part of any organization.

There are 14 people on the Staff of the Town of Carefree. These dedicated employees have been asked to assume more duties during the recession years and continue working with no increase in pay.

During the last 3 years we have been able to restore “cost of living” increases for all of the Staff. In our 2013-2014 Budget there is a 2% cost of living increase that adjusts salaries to keep up with inflation over the past year.

Two employees qualify for merit increase.

The Town Planner has assumed more responsibilities. In addition to his numerous other duties this person now manages and supervises roadway improvement projects. His new responsibilities replace a contract employee who did this work in the past.

A Public Works employee was hired several years ago at lower initial rate of pay, a “hire in” rate. His performance is excellent and he deserves a raise to the standard rate of pay for his position.

I am in Town Hall every day to observe the work our Staff does and the service they perform. I wish that all the members of the Town Council and the public would come to Town Hall and see the dedicated work of the Staff. I’m confident that everyone who actually sees the Staff in action would approve of these modest pay raises for a dedicated group of employees.

(Responses on the email about the dog who got lost on 5/10/13)

Lyn--this same exact thing happened to my neighbor yesterday, two coyotes got her dog away, but fortunately she and I got the coyotes to run away so there was a happy ending. I hope Eileen has a happy ending too. Seems very bold for the coyotes to do this when the owner is right there.

Phyllis

(This is why we continuously try to educate people in our HOA not to feed the wildlife.  It emboldens them, which is not good for them or for us.)

Lyn, I sent to everyone I know in both towns.  This lady has to be the next door neighbor of Bob Moore…. They will put this on the Mountain Shadows network.

Sara

Lyn, thanks for sending this out.  Derek came home after 3 1/2 hours in the desert.  He was a little tired but not hurt at all.

Nancy Keller

(She's Eileen's friend, and wanted to let us all know that Derek was home and safe.)

This is why we love our town.

Eileen

(Lyn's note: Eileen is the dog's human.)

Yay!!!!

I am happy for all, to have a happy ending.

Hooray.  I love happy endings.

Regarding comment by Sara:  Baloney!  The populace is anything but discordant!  Especially the Carefree populace.  In it's concurrent thinking and wisdom, it voted-out the trash that populated the old town council membership and replaced those self-serving, narcissistic, arrogant council members whose self-interests were the paramount concern of each of them.  This council vote action is not the sign of a "discordant" populace.  Rather, it is indicative of a citizenry that is concurrent in its rational thinking and quite astute, and can parse the empty rhetoric and biased information put forth by the old council membership and their fifth column enabler, The Sonoran News.

And, indeed, it is absolutely true that Carefree Truth plays a big role in keeping town government directed and rational, and working for the benefit of both the small businesses and the residents.
