(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

The 2015 Carefree Gardens calendars are now available at Carefree Town Hall, 8 Sundial Circle, Carefree.  They are gorgeous!

GUIDO'S GARCIAS? An ITAL/MEX JOINT?  Hmmmm. Might be interesting.  Deb and I will check it out.

Larry Schnieder

(Lyn's note: The fettuccini with pesto and either smoked salmon or chicken (I get chicken, which is not shown on the menu but they will do it that way) is to die for.  And I love sitting out under the trees on their lower patio by the water feature.  Very relaxing.  The owners are very nice too.  It's next to where Carefree Station was in Spanish Village.)

Sounds very fun.  Just may stop in there...

Jane Ceasor

(Lyn's note: The Cinco de Mayo party at Guido Garcia's does sound like fun!  Maybe I'll see you there!)

Patti and I were in Washington DC last week for a reunion of retired Hilton executives.  We had been before and we are always impressed at what there is to see and do, including the Capitol, the Monuments and Memorials.  Even having lived there for two years, I had not been to Mount Vernon to see the home of George Washington.  The visit reminded me of what a great General he was, what a great President he was, what a great farmer he was and what a great person he was.

However, perhaps an unplanned highlight of the trip was being at Reagan National Airport for our flight back to Phoenix.  While waiting, an incoming US Airways Honor Flight came in from Lafayette, Indiana with 87 veterans from WWII, Korean War and Vietnam.  Those men and women deserve all the accolades that they get.

The Honor Flight ‘ground crew’ in Washington DC did a great job, with flags, buntings and a brass band.  Here’s a picture of the back of one of the T-Shirts worn by one of the volunteers.

(Lyn's note: When I was in 8th grade at Germantown Academy, we took a week long field trip to Mt. Vernon (which I LOVED) and Williamsburg, VA for our American History class.  It was a wonderful experience.)

Hi – For years the Post Office building exterior has been deteriorating.  It’s a sad representation of Carefree.  Most of us have to go to this building every day or so to get our mail.  Is it possible to have the building painted?  I don’t know if this is an appropriate Agenda Item for the next Council Meeting because it’s so obvious.  Please forward this email and photo to the Council members.  Thanks.

Jackie McDermott, Carefree Homeowner

(Lyn's note:  Although the Post Office (which is run by a private contractor) and the current Council Chambers (which are rented by the Town) are located in this building, the building is privately, rather than government, owned.  It is up to the landlord to maintain the property.  But I did pass this on to the Council, as requested.)
