The only way to describe Mr. Van Allen's performance at the July 10th, 2012 Town Council meeting is befuddled (Definition: mentally confused; unable to think with clarity or act intelligently). Well documented on your YouTubes from that date.

I cannot begin to express my disappointment with Councilman Jim Van Allen's performance. It has become obvious that he is in collusion with failed candidate John Traynor, who ran against Mayor Schwan in the recall election. Mr. Traynor has run for council several times and has consistently lost. Councilman Van Allen's name is frequently cited as the source of information in John Traynor's malicious and factually inaccurate rants against the town.

 

Now, I see that the Councilman has turned against Carefree's signature event, the Christmas Festival, which draws huge crowds, providing sales to the local business owners, sales tax revenue to the town, and a wonderful showcase for Carefree. Not only did he state that he was opposed the Christmas Festival, he rudely insulted the always pleasant and polite Joanne Gemmill not once, but twice. Year after year, Mrs. Gemmill donates countless hours of her time to make the Christmas Festival a smashing success. It is not easy to find someone with her dedication and skill, someone who is so willing to give back to her community.

 

Shame on you, Councilman Van Allen! I voted for you the first time. I will not make that mistake again. You are a nasty little man.

Council member Jim Van Allen is AGAINST the Christmas Festival? The snow, Santa, children having fun, the fact that it's organized by a woman? Bah, humbug, Mr. Scrooge, er, Mr. Van Allen. And in the future, before you accuse the organizers of presenting a budget lacking transparency, have the courtesy and intelligence to do your homework.

Perhaps it's time for Joanne Gemmill and the participating merchants to parade forward with their checks at the next council meeting, suitably wearing Santa Clause hats. Next each one, individually depositing their check down in front of Mr. Van Allen. Put that on "youtube" and he would probably look as ridiculous as that Grinch cartoon.

 

Christmas is a politically sensitive time for council members. They surely would regret any bad publicity generated by bad judgement. I don't think anyone of them would like the image of that "Grinch who stole Christmas" After all, there is that next election to look forward to. The electorate is not to be trifled with, especially with their kids and grand-kids at Christmas time. Mr. Van Allen and the rest of the "re-callers group" are "treading on tradition". That my Dear, is a very slippery slope.

In the words of Clement Moore and Santa Claus, let's put this business to bed along with the "Resident Grinch", Mr. Jim Van Allen.

Yikes!!!!!! The Grinch really is trying to steal Christmas. Would he have the same problem if we celebrated a different religion or does he just have a "problem"? Some people just like to be "noticed" and will say anything to get attention.
