CAREFREE TRUTH

Letters from Readers: 7/25/13

Letters_from_readers.html

(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

(Lyn's note: Speaking of photos, keep the Carefree Desert Gardens Photo Contest in mind, and go take some pictures to enter in January.  We saw buds again on the Argentine Giant cacti.  The flowers they produce are spectacular!  Get out those cameras and do it!!!!!  The 2014 calendars will be available sometime in August.  We are waiting for a date on the November 2014 Thunderbird Art show, since the Town events are included on the calendars.  The 2014 calendar features the winning photos from the 2013 Gardens Photo Contest, and will be available to purchase at Carefree Town Hall when completed.  I'll keep you posted.)

Thank you so much, Lyn.

Mike Wold

(Lyn's note: Mike is running the Carefree "Healing Memories" program for veterans at the Spirit in the Desert Retreat in October.)

Hi Lyn,
Excellent idea. Unused rental space is always a problem for communities. The image is usually negative to the residents and those visitors who shop in town.  Commercial mixed use with "over the store residential" brings revenue, creates a positive image to residents and visitors of a successful community. Commercial mixed use with over the store residential, creates a constant flow of people into Carefree's Town Core.  Best of all, this offers greater opportunities for people who enjoy the convenience and fun of living and shopping in downtown Carefree.
Herb Natker

Lyn's note: This is especially true in a pedestrian friendly layout like Carefree.  Originally, there was residential use over commercial spaces in downtown Carefree.)

Thanks, Lyn - good overview but I had to laugh when I read, Vice Mayor Les 'Price' ...  Knowing Les, he is probably smiling too.  :)

Melissa Price

(Lyn's note: Oops. My apologies, Les!  Brain On Autopilot Syndrome.  It's been corrected to "Peterson" on our website.  Thanks for the catch, Melissa.)

Lyn,

Thank you so much. I always reading your recaps of meetings.

Les Peterson

I just have to comment on the recent Arizona Republic article regarding the Carefree business climate.  The article quoted Rod

DeSzendeffy.  He is the malcontent who whines that Carefree was so much better years ago.  He is the gadfly who spent over $20,000 in the attempted recall of the Mayor.  The article explains that there are 40 vacant business spaces in Carefree.  Rod de Szendeffy claims he has 4 empty spaces in one building and 16 in another.   DeSzendeffy is responsible for 50% of the problem.  Perhaps DeSzendeffy is 50% of the problem.  Maybe he should recall himself.

Hi Vincent,

The Cave Creek days of operation have been changed back to Wednesday thru Saturday, from 7am to 430pm.  We have had some recent cutbacks in our department and we have had to scale back some of our days of operation.  I hope this information was helpful, please feel free to contact me if you have other questions.

Thank you,

2919 W. Durango, Phoenix, AZ  85009, Cell 602-525-6487, E-mail ValindaMarquez@mail.maricopa.gov

(Lyn's note: Vinnie Fratarcangeli inquired about the recycling hours at the Landfill just a bit west of the Carefree Hwy./Cave Creek Rd. intersection on the south side of Carefree Hwy.  He thought others would be interested in the answer he got.)

Hi Lyn, Jan Misseri here.  Just would like to put a little something in the great "Carefree Truth".  I am searching for a position as an administrative assistant/customer service provider as well as a pet sitter.

Will match prices you are paying now.  I've worked in all of these areas for the past sixteen years and can provide references.  I live in Carefree so I am readily available to all in the area.  Please feel free to contact me either by email - casbin@aol.com or by phone - 480-488-5182.

Carefree Cave Creek

Chamber of Commerce

Upcoming Schedule of Events

Events for the Week of

July 22 - July 28

Did YOU Know

If this looks familiar then you have been through the process of creating a Mission and possibly a Vision Statement for your business.

Did YOU Know that your 2012 - 2013 Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors have adopted a Mission and a Vision statement, along with 4 Key Strategies?  Do YOU know what they are?

Mission Statement: Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce is committed to the growth of its members.

Vision Statement: Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce is the premier resource for the vitality and growth of the members.

4 Key Strategies

  1. 1.Strengthen member businesses through education, networking & advocacy.

  2. 2.Develop & strengthen committees.

  3. 3.Be recognized as the primary resource to get information for our community.

  4. 4.Strengthen Carefree Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce by retaining & maintaining existing members and seek out new members.

Our strategic planning sessions were a huge processes but worth all of the blood, sweat and tears that were shed.  By attending the Business Breakfast on Thursday you will meet some of the Board Members that were involved in this process, and learn more about the Vital Few and what plans are in-store that fit with our 4 Key Strategies.

Just for fun, here are a few Mission Statements that HOPEFULLY were left on the cutting room floor!!

  1. To work hard enough to create an illusion of respectability so that at night we can make as big of fools as we want to without recrimination.

  2. As Abe Lincoln once said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but not all the people all the time." We are out to prove him wrong.

  3. To get enough dorks to buy our stupid products that we can afford to dress as cool as we know we are.

  4. To have enough employees that we at the top levels never have to do any real work.

  5. We must work, so we might as well be doing this.

Hope to see you Thursday!!

Monsoon is here

If you have lived in Arizona for longer than one year you are well aware of the "Monsoon Season".  With the humidity just right, lightning, rain and not to mention all of the dust, you know that these days can be very dangerous if caught outside or driving in your car.

Thanks to the good guys (Ron Welch) of Karsten's Ace Hardware, we were notified of a very useful App for your smart phone.  It is called Dust Storm and it was developed by a group at University of Arizona. This app is very informative.  It will inform you of a dust storm that is headed your way, Survival Kit essentials, and very important safety tips if you are caught in a storm. This app will allow you to enter important phone numbers, insurance policy numbers and more - everything you need just in case of an emergency.   All of this and it is FREE!
