(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included. If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category. We have a special section for that purpose. Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale. He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite. It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall. If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.) Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Is it fact or fiction that there was a live Hand Grenade found in the junk the Kiwanis collect and sell at their Flea Market? Rumor has it that a live grenade was found at the last Flea Market on Sat., July 27th. The rumor concludes that the grenade had to be exported and exploded out in the wild brown yonder.
Thank you,
A Carefree Resident
(Lyn's note: Here is the article published in the AZ Republic about the incident.)
Carefree fire station evacuated after grenade found
By D.S. Woodfill and Cecilia Chan The Arizona Republic-12 News Breaking News Team Sat Jul 27, 2013 7:05 PM
A hand grenade that prompted the evacuation of a Carefree fire house Saturday afternoon contained some form of flash or black powder inside, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A member of the Kiwanis Club brought the grenade to the Rural Metro Fire station located at 37401 N Tom Darlington Drive because he didn’t know if the device was live or inert, MCSO spokesman Christopher Hegstrom said.
The man received the grenade from a friend who had relocated to another state and donated a box of household items to the Kiwanis Club, Hegstrom said. The grenade was found inside the box.
X-Ray results of the grenade were inconclusive and it was taken to a safe location for further determination, Hegstrom said.
Despite the evacuation, the fire crew remained on duty and responded to calls for service as the MCSO bomb squad disabled the device in the parking lot of the station.

Did YOU Know
Did YOU know a logo is the most visible element of your brand identity and the foundation of a smart marketing strategy? A great logo gets attention, sets you apart from competitors, and solidifies your position in the marketplace. Did YOU know a poor logo makes a permanently bad impression on prospects and confuses people about what your brand stands for? Here are a few key tips to help guide you to a great logo..
~The logo has a distinctive and memorable style - It should be visually interesting and memorable, so that people will quickly begin to recognize it each time they see it.
~The logo looks like your organization - Represents your mission and business.
~The logo can be used in all sizes - Now that we use mobile devices most of the time, your logo must be able to be recognized at a very small size. Can you embroider it on a shirt?
~The logo has staying power -Not too trendy. Times and fashions change. You don't want it so trendy it takes 20 years to come back into style.
~The logo clearly differentiates your organization from competitors - Should be unlike any competitor's logo or brand identity.
Here are a few famous logos - Do YOU know what they belong to?
Did YOU know
Carolyn Davidson was a student at Portland State when she designed the Nike logo. She was paid $35 for her logo, but was given stock later (now worth $643k). Mr Knight, founder of Nike originally said: 'Well, I don't love it, but maybe it will grow on me'.
***
The Chupa Chups logo was designed by Salvador Dali. The work took the Spanish artist just an hour to complete. The colors come from the Spanish flag.
***
***
Rob Janoff designed the original rainbow Apple logo in 1977 when he was working for the agency Regis McKenna as an art director. The only direction he got from Steve Jobs: "don't make it cute". There were two presented options, one with and one without the bite. The logo with the bite was chosen for scale. It was determined that a very small Apple logo with the bite still looks like an apple and not a cherry.

After reading all of this I know that if you have a logo or brand, you have worked very hard at developing it. As a member of the Chamber, one of your benefits is to have a page on the Chamber's website with your logo and 150 words or so, pictures etc. that best describe your business. If you visit the Business Directory of the Chamber's website and see your information is not there, please send it to me. It is very important that YOUR logo, brand, mission and vision are at the fingertips of all who visit our website.
