(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

(Lyn's note: Stacey and her 2 dogs have also been reunited.  See the emails below.)

Peanut Butter was found!  He is little sore but doing fine overall. He was found close to where he was lost. A neighbor found him and took care of him. Thank you so much for putting the word out.  All the positive thoughts really helped.

Good News, Peanut Butter has been found and returned to FAR…a little worse for the wear, but nothing serious.  Will keep you posted.

Holly Bergman

Ned and I are the ones who adopted this sweet-seeming little dog but I guess he didn't like us.  We had him home about an hour and were introducing him to the property.  Evidently the yard didn't appeal to him so after about 30 minutes of sniffing he scaled a 6' wall that had about an 8-9' drop on the outside and disappeared.  Ned and I were stunned. After tramping the desert evening and morning I was sure he was a goner.  I was so glad when FAR called to say he had been found, however, we let them keep him.  I can't deal with a runner.......

Thanks for your actions on this.

Nancy

(Lyn's note: This is re: Stacey's 2 lost dogs)

Lyn I am forwarding to our staff and volunteers.

Holly Bergman

Dear Holly and Lyn,

Just wanted to send a quick note of thanks for putting my babies on your radars!  I’ve heard from Patty Schiano, and she sounds like a super volunteer.  If I have any updates, I’ll be sure to check in.  Again, my family and I are truly grateful for your help!  I’ll keep my fingers crossed.  And, I understand the mess; tried to go home to search some more, and cannot cross the wash behind the library!

Regards,

Stacey

(Lyn's note: Patty is a gem.)

We have volunteers in that area searching.  Fingers crossed.

Holly

Hi Lyn. I just spent the better part of an hour driving the area north of Stagecoach on Galloway over to Scopa and down a bunch of dirt roads and crossed the wash a couple of times in the vicinity but no luck. Ran into some folks walking their dogs (and one couple playing in the water puddles in the wash) and no sighting. Almost got stuck in some deep mud once but rolled out without a problem. Just had a hunch when Stacey said 4wd and followed it. Gave my name and number to the people I met and asked them to keep an eye out and call me or one of the rescue shelters if they saw either or both of them. If Stacey needs to borrow a 4wd she is welcome to borrow mine in the morning.

Sorry I didn’t find them. I hope someone does. My Golden is mad at me for not taking her so its off for a flashlight walk with Molly

Good cheer

Phil Corso

I can help search in the morning if needed?

I sent a note to everyone I know living up there. I’ll put it in the newsletter!

Thank you Lyn,

You didn't miss anything.  I did.  Just didn't see photos.

These are precious.  Will check tomorrow to see about any sightings and will go out.

Thanks for what YOU do!

Dear Friends,

By now you may have heard, but my babies are home!  I’ve put them under house arrest. J  They’re doing well, one appears a little sore, but I think she’ll be fine.  It was a great relief to my children, who paid them extra attention last night.

My deepest and sincerest thanks to all of you and your extraordinary network.  There is truly something to be said about the kindness of strangers.

Regards,

Stacey

(Lyn's note: Yippee!!  Our community is filled with wonderful people.  So many have been involved in getting dogs and their families back together.  I had gone to meet Jerry Sieve for breakfast at the Resort before Stacey's email came to several of us who were involved.  I stopped at town hall to see if she wanted to go out looking for them with me in the Hummer.  I figured they'd come to her, and the Hummer goes places others can't.  That's how I found out they were home again.  So far, there has been a 100% success rate, due to all the people around here who care!)

Dogs were found at 7pm last night! Just spoke to Stacey. All is well :-)

Stacey,

This is wonderful news.  I saw the photos of the dogs with your kids, and I was so sad for them.  So good that you have a happy ending.  Keep those dogs (and kids) on a short leash.

I know you will have a great day.

Ellen Van Riper

Holly informed me by e-mail and then I called Stacy. I'm so happy and as I told her...I'm corny but I love happy endings.

Stay cool.

Patty Schiano

Happy ending, dogs found.

Look at all the wonderful things you accomplish with your Carefree Truth!!

Congratulations and so glad that pups are home.

Keep up the good work, Lyn.  You do so very much for our lovely little Community!

We all appreciate YOU!

Jane Ceasor

FAR volunteers please see the attached email.  The dogs have been return home!  Thank you all for your support and dedicated focus on helping furry family members find their way home!  Also, thank  you Eddie for the 4 wheel drive.  Randi and Bob sorry you got stuck in the mud.  But the Martini's after your rescue I hope made up for your mud bath!

What a great feeling to save an animals life and make a family happy!

Holly

(Lyn's note: Holly mobilized volunteers from Foothills Animal Rescue to help search.  The attache email to which she refers is the one from Stacey, above.)

I wonder if anyone has had expedience with birds pecking numerous holes in the stucco on the roof, enough to cause water to come through, and what they did to prevent that? I now have to foot a nice repair bill.

Rudy Williams

(Lyn's note: I sent this out to my HOA list and some of my neighbors provided these solutions.  I have heard others complain of the woodpeckers pecking holes in their stucco, so thought I'd share all this with my Carefree Truth readers.  Thanks!)

It doesn't look pretty - but you can buy strips of Mylar tape (Ace Hardware usually has it) and tack it about every 3 or 4 feet in the area that the woodpecker is attacking.   I cut the strips to about 2 - 3 feet in length so they would wave in the breeze.  That worked for us.  Of course, you have to reapply it occasionally because a good wind strips it off the tacking.  I tried all the other stuff like owls, rubber snakes, etc.  But the Mylar strips worked.

Barbara Groszkruger

My parents have tried Mylar strips at their house in Sun City West, and they seem to work pretty well. Since our flat roof has no gutters to hang them from, I use shiny pinwheels (from Walmart) stuck in coffee cans full of sand and place them on the roof in various places. They're not fool-proof, but it seems we've had less woodpecker activity as a result.

Scott Peterson

Hi Lyn. CDs can be used also. They are just like the Mylar tape and spinning keeps them away.

Sandy Neri

The only thing that Wildbrid suggests to prevent this is to put a woodpecker house near the holes so they don't want to peck near their home. Wind chimes sometimes work.

Louise Short

Yes, woodpeckers are a constant source of headaches and problems. Best thing to do is scare them away every time you hear their banging. Eventually they'll find another homeowner to bother. They're looking for bugs and I've seen them peck just about anything, including metal. I've also gotten decent results filling in their holes immediately upon discovery. I fill their holes with caulking, which takes a while to dry. If they try to reopen their same holes, they object to wet caulk and promptly leave. Plastic owls, sonic or visual repelling devices have limited value. Repeated shooing seems to work best.

Hi Lyn,
I have 2 Ocean Kayak, Scrambler models for sale. Lime green. Great for lakes & rivers too. Is this something you could post to neighbors/mailing list?
Thanks very much.
