Good to receive this info.—Thanks Lyn.

John Crane is an outstanding choice.

Ellen Van Riper

Very nicely done Lyn! As always...never stop!

Mike Krahe

(Lyn's note: Mike was one of the 6 excellent candidates who volunteered to fill the vacated Council seat.)

Lyn,

I am curious as to why you showed in your video the "full" statements of the Mayor and rest of council, yet you greatly abbreviated my comments to only 1-2 sentences. Hardly seems equable; and moreover, you missed the heart of my retort statement regarding Vice Mayor Price's recommendation that the "only" qualifier to appoint the next council member be dependent on whether the candidate elects to run in the next election or not.
Greatly disappointed,
Councilman Farrar
(Lyn's note: We thought that was the gist of what you said, Mike. The entire statements from the others were not included either, except for the Mayor, who did a nice summary. If you would like to elaborate on your position, please send me a letter and I'll be happy to publish it. We certainly didn't mean to make you feel short changed.)

Sounds like Carefree is blessed with good candidates for both elective and appointed offices. I also have this sneaky feeling that your 'little blog/newsletter' probably has more influence in the community than any single member of the council or city government - which is a good thing (when compared to the influence of the Snoring News on Cave Creek!). Keep doing what you do so well.

Larry Holland

(Lyn's note: Carefree is blessed to have an excellent Council and staff.)

ELDER HEALTH EVENT/

SEPTEMBER FALLS PREVENTION MONTH

Learn to Prevent Slips, Trips and Falls

FALL PREVENTION EVENT

September 26 Marks Falls Prevention Day

In Carefree and Cave Creek

Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among people 65 and older.

Learn to reduce risk factors associated with falls at this two-hour event.

CAREFREE/CAVE CREEK/N. SCOTTSDALE – (September 13, 2012) – The public is invited to learn how to prevent trips, slips and falls leading to injury at the Falls Prevention event, taking place from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 26 at the FCF-Holland Community Center, 34250 N. 60th St., in Scottsdale.

The event, which commemorates National Falls Prevention Month in September, includes balance screenings, Yoga and Tai Chi demonstrations, a panel discussion, equipment and resource displays along with interactive information that will provide a variety of community resources that work to provide safety in the home.

For information or to RSVP, call 480-488-1105.

According to the Area Agency on Aging in Phoenix:

· Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among people 65 and over.

· Nearly 33% of all falls in the elderly involve environmental hazards in the home.

· Failure to exercise regularly results in poor muscle tone, decreased strength, and loss of bone mass and flexibility.

The event is a program of the Northeast Valley Coalition that consists of the Foothills Caring Corps, Carefree Physical Therapy, The Foothills Community Foundation, the Rural-Metro Fire Department, Scottsdale Healthcare, the Desert Foothills Library and Sonora Quest Laboratories. The coalition was established in 2011 to raise awareness about accidental falls, to assist in fall prevention and to provide helpful resources in the community.

According to Debbra Determan, executive director of the Foothills Caring Corps, fall-related injuries are often serious enough to result in hospitalization and premature death. Persons who fall often face significant declines in mobility and independence.

“The good news is that many of these risk factors are preventable. The bad news is some people believe falls are a normal part of aging and are not preventable. This is not the case,” said Determan.

In honor of the event, the governments of Cave Creek and Carefree have both proclaimed Wednesday, September 26, 2012 as Fall Prevention Day.
