(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.  Here is the link to this week's Pictures of the Week. Enjoy!)

UPDATE ON MY ALS ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE:

Phil Corso thought it would be fun to make it a more public event, so I met with Carefree Marketing Director Gina Kaegi to see what we could do.  Binka Schwan will be pouring the bucket of ice water over me while I'm standing in one of the water features by the sundial (don't waste water, right? Also Phil's idea...) at 2 PM on Saturday, October 17th, during the opening weekend of the Carefree Pumpkin Festival.  We are inviting anyone else who wishes to take the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise money for the "David Team" at the ALS Walk to join me.  If there are any takers, contact Gina at 480-488-3686 or gina@carefree.org, or you can contact me.

"Maitland"/Fred, if you make a significant donation, you can pour a second bucket of ice water over me.  How about it, Big Guy?  You up for the moment?

Lyn

David is watching the video again.....  This is about the fifth time!!!

You are the best!

Love you!

Binka

(Lyn's note: For those of you who missed it in Monday's Carefree Truth, here's the link to the video of Binka Schwan getting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge bucket of ice water poured over her.  It's funny and fun. https://vimeo.com/user18676056/review/138495532/92382d64d8

And here is the link again to donate to "David's Team" for the ALS Walk on October 24th.  If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to the ALS Association and mail it directly to Binka Schwan at Box 5984, and she will make sure it gets to the right place to be credited for David.  Lea made me aware that some will send checks.  Thanks, again!

The video is hilarious!  Well done.  You heightened the fun by scooping out every last ice cube and then hesitating just a few seconds before drenching Binka.  You're the best!

Anita and Bernie

(Lyn's note: Anita is David's sister who lives out of state.)

Better than usual since the email includes a wonderful photo of David and Binka.

Best regards,

John Crane

So precious...Binka is my new hero! What a loving and supportive wife. All my best wishes to her and David.

Fun to watch while Patti and I are enjoying a "beat-the-heat-escape".  Currently in Newport Coast.  For the last week, we have slept with the windows open!  Wow, what a treat.  Back late Tuesday.

(Lyn's note: The Director had a lot of fun.)

How wonderful!! And you are getting doused in October? Where is this taking place??

Thank you for sharing this fun video and touching story. Your friends Binka and her husband seemed to have fun too . Two years ago my brother-in-law Benoit died in May after being diagnosed with Maladie de Charcot or Lou Gehrig's disease ... He was Brit's husband, such a fun loving, humorous and great person too. I will try to find a way to participate from my end in France. Just to let you know that I enjoyed the video and will send it also to some friends who are aware of this terrible ALS. Great film Herbie!!!

Love , Napi

(Lyn's note: I also sent out a plea to many of our friends.  Napi is my best friend from boarding school and college.  She married a Frenchman and lives in Paris.)

Hitch--I will make a donation but I need to know to whom.  I can send the check for $100.00 to you but tell me who to make it to--

Papa Ron

(Lyn's note: Papa Ron Crouse owns the mill that was our primary supplier when I was in the steel business back in Philadelphia.  He is also wonderful about donating every year to the Healing of Memories held at the Spirit in the Desert Retreat to help veterans.  And he buys a Carefree Gardens calendar every year.  Papa Ron and Blaine Keith are my 2 favorite Marines.  Blaine kindly donated to Binka for the ALS walk too.  His name was on the board over which she poured the bucket of water in the video.  Gotta love the Marines!)

In November 2014 we had our first visit to Alberto Ristorante.  I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy sausage with penne and a tomato sauce.  My guest had mushroom ragout over papardelle.  The food was excellent with a nice atmosphere and friendly service.  The staff was attentive without being omnipresent, which helps us have a good time without annoying and unnecessary interruptions!  The wines by the glass selection was quite appealing.  We look forward to our next dining experience at Alberto's.

Best Regards,

John Crane

Wow - when does Herbie sleep? Thank you again, Lyn!

We are so appreciative of your support!
