CAREFREE TRUTH
CAREFREE TRUTH
Letters from Readers: 3/3/10
You do not know me, Lyn. My name is Nan (Nanette) Boyer-Searle. My husband (Steve Searle) & I worked on Carefree's incorporation when we moved here. We had lived in the Foothills since '77 and were in our mid twenties. We then moved to Carefree in '83.
We fell in love with Carefree and very much admired the wonderful concept, implemention & efforts to create Carefree. The founding fathers Palmer & Darlington were so talented and careful to create Carefree to be unique for perpetuity. Upon incorporation, each Mayor has strived to keep the original concepts of fiscal responsibility, low or no town taxes and the safety of the citizens. As you mentioned, we are one of three Valley towns that have substantial reserves!
We did not help to incorporate Carefree to see the Carefree forefathers' efforts and our humble efforts be in vain later when a few newcomers want to change a town that has been successful over 25 years. Sell the fire station. Are they kidding?
As many people, my parents & we were involved in supporting Carefree & our community at large: CIA (Cf Improvement Assoc), Kiwanis, the first Cf P & Z, the first Foothills Community Foundation board, Foothills Community Theater, church, school bonds and the first official volunteer program for CCUSD which was first initiated by the FCF. I mention our involvement because it was only through such activities that we were blessed to meet such dynamic, giving and often humble people who knew how to run large corporations, businesses and towns. They kept Carefree as it was originally conceived by our forefathers, for thier backgrounds prepared them. We are not "good ole boys" yet we appreciated what those people accomplished.
One thing I noticed about David Schwan (in regard to your neighbor commenting that Schwan is non-responsive) is his numerous invitations to call his home number to discuss any concerns or to give answers to questions. Naturally I find David's invitation very responsive. Again I ask, why would we be ready for a change for Carefree when it has been so successful since it's conception?
Joy and blessings for your efforts Lyn.

Thank you for introducing yourself. Now I know what your face is--I like it--and where you live and the Carefree history you've created. I live as far north in Carefree as anyone has gone so far. I've been here since before the town was incorporated.
Your videos of Council meetings are a revelation. Thank you for providing them.

Hey Bellicose Bob -
I continue to observe your vocal remonstrations at the monthly Town Council Meetings. You really need to complete an anger management course. Why are you so persistently enraged?? To be in the this obvious, abiding state of acrimony that borders on a neurotic condition suggests that you are in need of immediate therapy. Even your announcement at this March meeting was absurdly truculent, unnecessarily loud, and came across as bellicose Bob just attempting to get even with the entire Carefree Town populace. Get even for what?? The Town citizenry didn't maintain a special account long after it was supposed to have been closed-out. Your announcement of the findings of that bank account malfeasance investigation should have been delivered with some sense of joy and a degree of humility — these are ideal opportunities to endear yourself to the voters. Instead, we got the typical bellicose Bob rant . . . a derisive display of anger that clearly is dismissive of Carefree voters as worthless citizens. And by god, bellicose Bob will show us all!
The Town citizenry continues to anxiously await your suggested solutions or list of initiatives that will jump-start a significant increase in the revenues for the town. More criticism of the stewardship of the town, below, but ongoing silence as to what the distinguished, if sadly incompetent, bellicose Bob the councilman would do to ameliorate the situation.
Enjoy your remaining, short-term position as a Carefree Town Council member.
