Protect Carefree’s Strong Financial Position

o   Carefree continuously monitors revenues and responsibly reduces

            expenditures

o   has the third highest per capita reserves in Arizona for towns our size

o   the lowest debt of nearly all surrounding towns

o   paid cash for our state-of-the-art Fire Department and Public Safety building

o   saved the average homeowner between $800-$1000 a year with Town-provided

            fire and emergency response

o   purchased a new permanent home for Town Hall at a lower cost to the Town than

            renting.

You wouldn’t know this from reading The Sonoran News.  Owner, Don Sorchych, constantly derides the accomplishments of what he calls the Good Old Boys of Carefree.  In reality, the Good Old Boys are experienced business executives and professional people who have served Carefree and their community very effectively since its incorporation in 1984.  Their achievements are unprecedented for a town our size, and done without assessing property or use taxes.

Mr. Sorchych is trying to destroy that record and replace the management and staff of Carefree by promoting the election of his own “Sorchych Old Boys” to our Town Council.  The attempt to recall Mayor David Schwan after only 26 days in office is unwarranted.

Why does Sorchych want to control Carefree?  Is it to regain the Town’s advertising?  Or, is it a personal vendetta?  If the citizens of Carefree like being in a strong financial position, not having to pay property or use taxes like every other town bordering us, then you need to act.  The people Sorchych supports have fought against many of the accomplishments listed above.  Look at the graphs below.  The numbers speak for themselves.
