(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

(Lyn's note: We love promoting local!  Keep your events coming and we'll publish them.  We've now figured out how to deal with the really long ones, and if they are this long again, we'll do it via the links.  It's all a learning process.)

Lyn:  Please make sure you don't get hit by a Mack truck.  I honestly don't know what we would do without you.  Besides truth you have brought so much sunshine to the life of Carefree................. Marie Christensen

Lyn and Joe, nice promo release. Thanks. It was a pleasure once again to be one of the judges.

Hi Lyn: Thanks.

Jerry Sieve

(Lyn's note: Jerry is kind enough to offer a 2 hour one-on-one workshop as our Grand Prize to the public favorite.  Our judges are gems.  I love this community!)

Lyn and Joe, thank you for all the fine work that you two do every year to make our town and the community a village.

(Lyn's note:  Garage door security video.  I got this from Arthur Gimson and felt it was well worth passing along.  The solution is cheap and easy.)

Cave Creek Museum on Facebook

February6, 2014

Good Morning Museum Friends and Supporters!

We need some help with the set up and take down at this years Spur Cross Expo (Mar 1). Set up involves moving and rearranging folding tables and chairs (heaviest table is 47 lbs. and each chair weights 8lbs.). Volunteers work in pairs to share the load. There isn’t much walking as the distance between event tents is not great. Take down involves moving the tables and chairs back to the trailer for transport. Tents will need to be taken down too.

Set up and take down is estimated to take roughly an hour each. Volunteers have the option of staying on to assist with booth duties if they wish.

For more information contact Mary Kearney (maryk92@aol.com) or Evelyn Johnson (evelyn@cavecreekmuseum.com)

Thank you and we hope to see you at this year's Expo!

Cave Creek Museum is proud to preserve the history of the Desert Foothills.

Kiwanis Club of Carefree Flea Market & Marketplace

Saturday, March 8, 2014

8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Does NASCAR memorabilia get your engine revving? Does the thought of adding a vintage Avon perfume bottle (or two, or three) to your collection sound sweet?

There are many popular collectibles at the upcoming Carefree Kiwanis Flea Market and Marketplace on Saturday, March 8, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m, in addition to the usual vast array of furnishings, electronics, exercise equipment and housewares.

An extensive collection of NASCAR memorabilia (in what looks to be mint condition) will be available for sale. “In the first couple of boxes, we found raceway caps (some autographed), boxed toys, commemorative pins, vintage bottles and autographed trading cards, framed Daytona 500 tee shirts with race passes, and life-sized cardboard standups,” said Carefree Kiwanis Marketplace Chairperson Anne Hilton. “Who knows what’s in all those other boxes!” Most items will be priced in the range of $1 to $8.

A large collection of Avon perfume bottles will be sold individually at prices that range from $1 to $4, so even a young collector will be able to find a lovely piece to suit a tight budget. “In full disclosure,” added Hilton, “the bottles are empty and the original boxes are long gone.”

In addition to the racing memorabilia and perfume bottles are Norman Rockwell Collector Plates and Limoge “Paris Series” Collector Plates. “Vintage items are regularly available at the Carefree Marketplace, along with quality clothing, accessories, jewelry, artwork, collectibles and unique pieces of furniture,” noted Hilton. The Marketplace is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

You can treasure hunt at both the Flea Market and Marketplace on March 8, because the Marketplace is located at 7171 Cave Creek Road, Carefree, Arizona 85377, across the parking lot from the Flea Market. Look for the large Kiwanis Club of Carefree Marketplace signs.

The Carefree Kiwanis Flea Market is located at Dave Anderson Memorial Building, 7177 E. Ed Everett Way in Carefree, Arizona 85377 (southwest corner of Tom Darlington and Cave Creek Road).

Cash, credit cards and checks (with I.D.) will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the Youth Programs of Kiwanis Club of Carefree, a 501.c3 organization. To schedule a donation pick-up, volunteer at the Flea Market warehouse or join the Carefree Kiwanis, please call the Kiwanis Club of Carefree at 480.488.8400 or visit www.kiwaniscarefree.org.
