CAREFREE TRUTH

Letters from Readers & Events: 2/19/14 Part #1

Letters_from_Readers_%26_Events.html

I am sending Letters, Events, and Ads out in 3 sections now, as it has become so large that it turns into a zip file.  We are delighted that so many of the local non profit organizations are utilizing Carefree Truth now to help publicize their events.

(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Hey Lyn, thanks for the great ad about Kevin and the restaurant.  The only thing that I hope we can fix is Cafe Bink's hours.  We are open Mondays and have been fighting this battle for months as all over the Internet, websites say closed Mondays.  You could be a big help with this and I should have thought of this sooner.  The reality is from June til the first Monday in October we are closed Mondays and as of the first Monday in October we open Monday's for season.  Please help.

Monday thru Sat Lunch 11-2, Midday 2-5, Happy Hour 3-5, Dinner 5-9.  Sunday same but lunch/brunch 10-2.

I know Jim from our Homeless Program with Debbra… couple of years back.  I left him a message to see what the programs are like now.  I’m glad you wrote this; I think about him frequently, but didn’t have a phone or email till your article popped up.

Donor pays off mortgage for Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center’s new facility

The Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center received the precious donation of a $300,000 mortgage payoff from an anonymous donor. According to the food bank’s executive director, Pam DiPietro, the generous donation saves the northern foothills food bank $36,000 in payments annually for the facility it purchased in December 2012.

“While this was an incredible donation, our food bank anticipates an increase in the number of people who will need our help due to recent cutbacks in food stamps,” says DiPietro. “Since moving to our new facility, 426 more individuals have asked for our help, and since January, we have seen an additional 47 individuals request assistance along with the 8,000-plus people we already serve. So, we continue to be in dire need of food and monies from the public at-large.”

According to DiPietro, the new building effort got underway in March 2008, when a food bank volunteer suggested the Cave Creek resource center purchase a building and pledged $100,000 to begin a capital campaign. Donations helped renovate the purchased building so it would be ready for move-in in June 2013. The generous donation by the donor allowed Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center to clear its mortgage debt by February 2014. Foothills Food Bank & Resource Center plans a mortgage burning celebration on Saturday, March 22 at 10:30 AM at its complex, which is located at 6038 E. Hidden Valley Road in Cave Creek, Ariz.
