(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose, and have just added some art as well.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Lyn:

Reading the news of DJ’s impending move to bigger and better things gave me the best and the worst.  Great for DJ and how sad for Carefree.

He is one of the most sincere and dedicated staff that I met.  I do not think that I ever heard him say “No” to any requests.  He was exceedingly helpful during the two years that I chaired the Salute Our Veterans event with the preparation of posters, programs, photographs, promotional postcards and advertisements as well as the programs.

Gary Neiss should make it a condition of DJ’s departure that he find a clone before he is allowed to leave!

Arthur Gimson

(Lyn's note:  I told D.J. that I was going to chain him in his office, with monitored bathroom breaks, and food delivery.  Here is his reply.)

I was wondering why I saw chains dragging behind your Hummer the other day.  You’re on my list of people to miss.  And too bad I have 5 months to mull over all that.

DJ

Yeah . . . your insurance guy strengthens my point, that is, the more sophisticated the crossing area (crosswalk, flashing lights, stop lights, etc.), the greater the sense of security that exists in the pedestrian -- a possibly quite false and dangerous sense of security.

Fred G.

I am always surprised, when at Albertson's, the people that step out into the parking lot because they know they have the right of way. They will be dead wrong one of these days. In Illinois we don't have the same law but some people do not even look!!!

(Lyn's note: I read the COINS about the missing lady and immediately sent it to my Carefree Truth email list too.  As I was about to hit Send, I got a call from Mayor Schwan asking me to do so.  I told him it was already handled.  The more eyes, the better.)

I'll be on the look out. Let me know if I can be helpful in any way.

My father use to "go missing" and it's a terrifying experience to go through.

Patty Schiano

How terrible! Did they find her yet????

Sherry Nelson

Great community service—good to know we have this available when necessary.

Marilyn Maloney

(Lyn's note: Between COINS and Carefree Truth, we hit a lot of people.  I'm sure there is overlap, but for something like this, overlap is better than gaps.)

Don't know her, but she is our neighbor.

Kathleen

Florence....wow she really had a joy ride. Thank God they found her.

Thanks for the update.

OMG, that's crazy. Good thing they found her whereabouts!

KARSTEN’S ACE HARDWARE

ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR OF RETAIL OPERATIONS

RON WELCH

David Karsten, owner of Karsten’s Ace Hardware, recently announced the promotion of Ron Welch to Director of Retail Operations.

Welch will oversee Karsten’s Ace Hardware’s Valley locations in Cave Creek, Carefree, and Goodyear. A valued member of the Karsten’s team for the past six years, Welch has served as the Carefree store manager for the past 4 ½ years.

The family-owned hardware store’s recent growth, and future plans, facilitated the need for a new director position. “Ron has been representing Karsten’s out in our community as well as volunteering his time to numerous charitable organizations. It gives me great pleasure to announce his promotion,” said Karsten.

Welch will oversee store managers and the inventory manager at each location. “My goals have always been centered around helping others both at work and in the community. In this new position I will continue to share my knowledge, provide an amazing customer experience, and help meet our associates’ needs,” said Welch.

Ron Welch is a familiar face in the Northeast Valley. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce, and is heavily involved in the Carefree Christmas Festival, among others.

For information, contact Dave Karsten, Karsten’s Ace, 28220 N. Tatum Boulevard in Cave Creek. Or, call 480-513-7020.

(Lyn's note: Congratulations, Ron!  Good job!)

Donating old clothes?  Here's an eye opener.

(Lyn's note: A friend sent this email.  Herbert and I donate our items and money to the local non profit organizations in our area.  We know who and what they are, and what they contribute to our community.  We have many wonderful ones, and those running them don't get big salaries and perks, as opposed to many of the national and international ones.  They are mostly staffed by volunteers, and everyone involved is there because they are dedicated to giving back to their community.  Check your local area, and I suspect you will find at least one organization that will make you glad it's there.  We are blessed with an abundance of them.  Donated goods stay in the area, and the money they generate helps locally.)
