(Lyn's note: Please feel free to send us any pictures you'd like included.  If your photos are for sale, let us know and we will put them under that category.  We have a special section for that purpose.  Check out Tom Baker's photos for sale.  He's the photographer who took that gorgeous photo in the Carefree Gardens Photo Contest that was both the judges' first pick and the public favorite.  It's now featured on the Town of Carefree website, and will be the cover of the 2014 Gardens calendar that will be for sale later this summer at Carefree Town Hall.  If anyone would like to buy a print of any of Herbert's photos, all profits will be donated to one of the local non-profit organizations.)  Here's the link to this week's Pictures of the Week.

Letter From the Oktoberfest Event Chairman & Past President of APDA Arizona Chapter

We are just over one month away from our 9th Annual Oktoberfest for Parkinson’s event in Carefree, located at the world famous Sundial Park & Botanical Gardens.  This year’s Oktoberfest will be bigger and better than ever with our Sunset Sprint for Parkinson’s 10k/5k and Pedal Over Parkinson’s Family Cruiser Bike Ride starting at 4 pm.  Immediately following the exercise events we will be starting the Oktoberfest celebration at 5 pm and the entry fee remains at only $25, which includes unlimited food & drinks.  The $25 entry fee into the Run/Ride events also includes admission into Oktoberfest.

We have seen tremendous growth in our attendance every year, and next month we expect to host over 500 people at Oktoberfest.  Oktoberfest for Parkinson’s has become one of the largest and most successful PD community events of the year.  In addition to the gourmet German buffet and dozens of fine ales and wine to sample, there are multiple live music performances and gigantic silent auction.

Our Grand Prize is an all-inclusive romantic trip for two to Sonoma for a weekend in wine country.  The prize includes air fare, hotel and a private winery tour of Kendall-Jackson Estate by the CEO, Rick Tigner.  Afterwards you will be joining Rick and his wife for a gourmet dinner experience you will not soon forget.  These raffle tickets are available for purchase online at our website for only $25 per and 5 for $100.  We are only selling 1000 tickets and you do not have to be present at Oktoberfest to win.

All of the proceeds from Oktoberfest benefit our service programs and support community initiatives such as Neuro Wellness Centers, the Meds Connection program and our educational Power Over Parkinson’s Conferences held throughout the year across the state.

I hope you are able to join us on Saturday, October 26th in Carefree.  We are still in need of volunteers for the day of the event and also on several of our planning committees.  If you are interested in volunteering in anyway, please email our event coordinator Jessica Beach at jessabee11@gmail.com.  You can also sign-up to volunteer on the Oktoberfest for Parkinson’s event page on our website.

Thanks for taking the time to open this newsletter and read about our event.  I look forward to seeing you next month in Carefree.

 Joey Gregan

Hi Lyn, Jan Misseri here.  Just would like to put a little something in the great "Carefree Truth".  I am searching for a position as an administrative assistant/customer service provider as well as a pet sitter. Will match prices you are paying now.  I've worked in all of these areas for the past sixteen years and can provide references.  I live in Carefree so I am readily available to all in the area.  Please feel free to contact me either by email - casbin@aol.com or by phone - 480-488-5182.
